Tanner Swire will play his final game at Eagles Diamond this afternoon. He spent the last two years as a starter anchoring the second base bag. Swire leads the starters in batting average (.329) and OBP (.417).
iola had had the ability to score runs when it’s played CSU San Marcos previously this season. All signs point to the idea that could be the case again in this one as Biola comes off a week where it scored 47 times in four games, going 3-1. One of those four games was a 16-10 victory at the Cougars. The Eagles come into this doubleheader with a 2-0 record against CSU San Marcos this season. Biola is one of just four teams with a winning record against CSUSM this season (Menlo, Point Loma, Concordia). The Eagles have had to come from behind late in each of their previous two meetings with the Cougars. They scored the gamewinning run in their half of the eighth inning the first time these two met and in the sixth inning during last week’s affair. Biola’s ability to come-from-behind
against CSUSM is a positive sign since the Eagles are just 1-17 this season when trailing after the seventh inning. Buddy Brouwer got the win in relief during last week’s game between these squads. He’s been one of the most heavily-utilized relief pitchers in Head Coach Jay Sullenger’s bullpen this season. He’s logged 36.2 innings as a freshman, posting a 4.42 ERA and has a WHIP just over 1.50 while striking out more than he’s walked. He’s gone at least four innings in three of his last five outings, including in his only start of the season (April 7 against Bethesda). He, and the rest of the Eagles’ staff, will have its hands full with these CSU San Marcos hitters today. The Cougars lead the nation in doubles (121), setting a new school single-season record this year while bashing the ball all over

the ball park. They also lead the nation in hits-per-game at 11.9. CSUSM tallied more than their season hits-per-game average in both previous meetings with Biola. Biola scored first in each of those meetings, which has been a sign of success for the Eagles this season. BU is 13-8 in games where they post the first run of the game. On paper, the only area where Biola has an advantage in this game in on the base paths. The Eagles are 31st in the country in steals (87), while the Cougars have just 59. Perhaps this is because CSUSM leads the nation in doubles and stealing third base is far more uncommon than stealing second. The flip side to the base paths stat is that Biola is No. 20 in the nation in times caught stealing (27). However, the games aren’t played on paper as evidenced by Biola’s 2-0 record against CSUSM so far.

His special week began with a 16-10 win over this CSU San Marcos squad. He was 5-for-6 with five RBI and three runs scored in that one. His hot hitting continued in the weekend series with San Diego Christian, leading to him being tops on the team in RBI and runs scored last week. Tanner Swire will play his final game at Eagles Diamond this afternoon. He spent the last two years as a starter anchoring the second base bag. Swire leads the starters in batting average (.329) and OBP (.417).
iola had had the ability to score runs when it’s played CSU San Marcos previously this season. All signs point to the idea that could be the case again in this one as Biola comes off a week where it scored 47 times in four games, going 3-1. One of those four games was a 16-10 victory at the Cougars. The Eagles come into this doubleheader with a 2-0 record against CSU San Marcos this season. Biola is one of just four teams with a winning record against CSUSM this season (Menlo, Point Loma, Concordia). The Eagles have had to come from behind late in each of their previous two meetings with the Cougars. They scored the gamewinning run in their half of the eighth inning the first time these two met and in the sixth inning during last week’s affair. Biola’s ability to come-from-behind
against CSUSM is a positive sign since the Eagles are just 1-17 this season when trailing after the seventh inning. Buddy Brouwer got the win in relief during last week’s game between these squads. He’s been one of the most heavily-utilized relief pitchers in Head Coach Jay Sullenger’s bullpen this season. He’s logged 36.2 innings as a freshman, posting a 4.42 ERA and has a WHIP just over 1.50 while striking out more than he’s walked. He’s gone at least four innings in three of his last five outings, including in his only start of the season (April 7 against Bethesda). He, and the rest of the Eagles’ staff, will have its hands full with these CSU San Marcos hitters today. The Cougars lead the nation in doubles (121), setting a new school single-season record this year while bashing the ball all over

the ball park. They also lead the nation in hits-per-game at 11.9. CSUSM tallied more than their season hits-per-game average in both previous meetings with Biola. Biola scored first in each of those meetings, which has been a sign of success for the Eagles this season. BU is 13-8 in games where they post the first run of the game. On paper, the only area where Biola has an advantage in this game in on the base paths. The Eagles are 31st in the country in steals (87), while the Cougars have just 59. Perhaps this is because CSUSM leads the nation in doubles and stealing third base is far more uncommon than stealing second. The flip side to the base paths stat is that Biola is No. 20 in the nation in times caught stealing (27). However, the games aren’t played on paper as evidenced by Biola’s 2-0 record against CSUSM so far.
