Black Hill’s Kingfisher May through September, the Kingfisher pontoon boat tours beautiful 505-acre Little Seneca Lake on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays. The 45 minute trip is narrated by a Naturalist or experienced tour guide, and tickets are sold on a first-come, firstserved basis at the Boat House. Tickets are $5 per person; 10-Trip ticket books are available (save $5). Private group tours (30 people or more) may be arranged; please call 301-528-3492 for details.

Boats & Fees

Take a 20-minute pontoon boat tour of Lake Needwood on the Needwood Queen and look for turtles, birds, and other wildlife in and around the lake. Tickets are $4 per person. The boat operates weekends and holidays from Memorial Day to Labor Day, with five tours a day between Noon-4pm. Weekdays, Wednesday to Friday group tours (10 or more people) may be arranged; call 301-563-7524.

Rent a rowboat, canoe, single or tandem kayak at either lake for the same low rate: $ 13.00 per hour  $ 45.00 all day Pedal boats for $11.00 per half-hour At Black Hill only, rent: Paddle Boards for $13.00 per hour All fees include tax. Cash and Credit are accepted at both facilities. A driver’s license is required as a security deposit for each rental.

Black Hill Now Featuring Pedal Boats Come try out our four seat Paddle Wheeler pedal boats. They are a great way for novice boaters to explore the lake!

Black Hill Water Trail Learn more about the ecology, plants and wildlife (fish, birds, insects, etc.) in and around Little Seneca Lake on this self-guided water tour. Print out a Black Hill Water Trail Guide online at BlackHillBoats.com, or pick one up at the Boathouse when you rent your boat—then follow the water trail markers in your canoe, kayak or rowboat.

Fishing & Supplies Largemouth bass, catfish, bluegill, and crappie are the most common fish species found in both Little Seneca Lake and Lake Needwood. Tiger muskie (Seneca) and trout (Needwood) are also stocked seasonally. All anglers age 16 and older will need a Maryland Fishing License. Both boathouses carry live bait, bobbers, hooks and bamboo fishing poles for sale. Waterproof boxes are available to rent.

Boating Permits Private boats are permitted on both lakes from March 1 through December 15, sunrise to sunset. You’ll need a daily or seasonal boating pass to go on the lakes; seasonal passes are good for entry to both lakes. Beginning August 1, seasonal passes for the rest of the 2017 boating season will be prorated. Mooring sites at each lake are available at the beginning of the boating season for the cost of a seasonal pass and an additional fee. Check the websites for details.

Rental Boat Regulations

Lake Needwood Boats Lake Needwood Scavenger Hunt Here’s another fun thing for the kids to do while you’re out on the lake or walking around the park. Pick up a Scavenger Hunt card at the Boathouse, find as many of the objects pictured on the card as you can, and mark them off. Every child who returns a marked card is entered in a monthly raffle to win two Montgomery Parks Complimentary Passes, good for all kinds of great, free fun in Montgomery Parks!

Join the Captain’s Club! Come here often? Pick up a “Captain’s Club” card at the Boathouse. We’ll punch your card every time you rent a boat, and for every four rentals, you get one rental free!

 At least one person in each boat must be

sixteen (16) years of age or older.

 Approved flotation devices (provided with

each boat rental) must be worn at all times by boat occupants.  No swimming or diving from boats.  No alcoholic beverages of any kind are allowed in boats or on Park property.
