Bob May Assistant Director, Program Management, IJIS Institute

Robert L. May has 36 years of criminal justice experience including 12 years in law enforcement and the past 24 years in local state and national criminal justice projects. May is an active member of the FBI's Information Sharing and N-DEx Operations Task Force and Global's Criminal Intelligence Coordinating Council's National Criminal Intelligence Sharing Plan (NCISP) Refresh task team. Before joining the IJIS Institute, May served as the associate director of the Association of State Correctional Administrators. May also served as Principal with the Criminal Justice Institute (CJI), leading CJI's efforts providing consulting services to state and county correctional agencies in the development and implementation of solutions to criminal justice specializing in reentry, substance abuse and mental health, and correctional health care. Earlier in his career, May was a principal with JBS International where he was director of criminal justice projects and directed technical assistance for BJA's Residential Substance Abuse Treatment Program for State Prisoners (RSAT) and the Criminal Justice Treatment Networks projects for CSAT. Bob previously served as executive director of National TASC, a professional membership organization representing Treatment Accountability for Safer Communities programs. There he also directed the BJA Correctional Options Technical Assistance and Training Project, the State Justice Institute's project titled National Symposium on the Implementation of Drug Court Programs, and the Drug Court Resource Center project funded by BJA (in partnership with The American University and The National Center for State Courts). After 12 years in law enforcement, he became director of special projects at the American Jail Association. Prior to joining AJA, May was chief criminal investigator and police lieutenant in county and state level law enforcement agencies. May is a graduate of the 138th Session of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia. He holds a B.S. in behavioral science from the University of Maryland and completed post-graduate work in criminal justice administration through Virginia Commonwealth University/FBI National Academy.
