November 3rd, 2017 Cornerstone Christian School News Parent/Teacher Conferences are one week away! If you have not yet signed up now is the time to do that. All families are required to schedule a conference. Conferences will be held Wednesday, November 15th, from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm and Thursday, November 16th, from 12:00 pm to 7:45 pm. Preschool parents will sign up in the classroom for preschool conferences. All other families may reserve your conference time by coming into the school office or by calling the office.

Brr-it’s cold outside! 1. Please send your child to school with a jacket and check to see that they have it with them when they exit your vehicle. Students will be going out for recess if the temperature is 10 degrees above 0 with the wind chill factor. 2. While at school students need to wear shoes with their uniforms. Fashion and winter boots are not permitted.

We have two opportunities for you to attend and be a vital part of what’s happening at CCS. Both of these meeting take place Tuesday, November 14th. The first PTO (Parent Teacher Organization) meeting will begin at 6:30 pm and “Meet With the Board Night” will follow at 7:00 pm. All parents are invited to attend! Both meetings are in room 108. "Meet the Board Night" in September was an enjoyable and productive evening! The Board and Administration have already taken action on a lot of the input that parents brought. We are very excited to continue building on the momentum. All parents are welcome to come for a very relaxed, interactive conversation. Hope to see you there!

Operation Christmas Child boxes are due next week! Touch the life of a child for the Lord through Operation Christmas Child. Operation Christmas Child brings joy to children and families in desperate situations worldwide through simple, gift-filled shoeboxes and evangelistic materials that share God’s love. A shoebox (or plastic container) filled with small toys and other gifts can open hurting hearts to God. Boxes will be collected at school the week of November 6th-9th. Please enclose a $9 donation to cover the cost of shipping and other projects. This should be enclosed in the envelope that was sent home. You may also add a personal letter in your shoebox. Wrap each box in a way that they may be opened for inspection (lid separate from box). Mark your box for boy or girl and the age. Place a rubber band around the entire box. Thank you! Do Not Include in Boxes Candy; toothpaste; used or damaged items; war-related items; chocolate or food, seeds; fruit rolls or other fruit snacks; drink mixes (powered); liquids or lotions; medications or vitamins; breakable items such as snow globes or glass containers; aerosol can.

Shoebox Ideas

Emelissa and the Letter:

I grew up in the coastal town of La Ceiba, Honduras, where Hurricane Mitch hit late in 1998. I remember my mom woke me before the sun was up and said we had to flee to a friend’s house in the mountains or we would die. When we got there, we shared a small house with five other families. Eventually, bridges were reconstructed so we could go back to our house in La Ceiba. It was damaged, but many other people lost their homes. The church I attended hosted a huge event to celebrate Children’s Day, a holiday set toward the end of summer. It was every kid’s dream of a party with pinatas, cake, and clowns. Just before it ended, they lined us up and gave each of us a box. We all opened our shoeboxes, and there was so much excitement. I remember being so happy. My box had a letter and a picture from a girl named Olivia who lived in Minnesota. It was so encouraging to see someone young care for others that she didn’t even know. I saved up enough money so I could mail her a letter about who I was and how much I loved the gift and letter. The letter and picture were something very special because they gave me a glimpse into the person behind the shoebox. I will forever be thankful to Olivia for the gift and the happiness and joy it brought to me. I also got a pink telephone-shaped notebook. I remember all my friends had nice pencils and notebooks, but I just had the boring stuff because that’s all my parents could afford. As a kid, I wanted what my friends had. The telephone notebook was my first real notebook and from that time on, I started journaling.

We are currently looking for parent volunteers for the LEGO Club and Student Council. If you are available to fill these important positions please call the school office: 810-494-4040. Thank you!

Parents in Prayer Please join us in prayer every Friday at 8:30 am when school is in session! We will be meeting in the Student Center (located down the hall from the Kindergarten lockers). You are welcome to bring along your younger children with you. We'd be happy to accommodate and model this prayer time with them present! Come pray with us for our children, our schools, our teachers and staff, families and nation! If we aren't praying for them who is?

Library Books Cornerstone Christian School is now collecting new and gently used hard covered books for our library. If you have some good wholesome literature that would like to donate please bring the books to the school office. Please do not donate books that have torn pages or writing in them. Thank you.

CCS AUCTION The auction team is in the process of collecting items and services for the our March 9th live and silent auction dinner banquet. Please join them by asking local businesses, friends, and family member for their donations and sponsorship. There are auction donation forms and letters available in the school office for you to get started. It may seem early but some businesses will only commit to a few donations each year so it’s important to ask for their donation now! Do you have a service, season tickets, a vacation site that you could donate? Would you or your business become a sponsor?

Brighton Holiday Glow

Jesus -

Our Light and Life

“...I am the light of the World...” John 8:12

CCS has a wonderful opportunity to take part in the Holiday Glow of Brighton. The Brighton Chamber of Commerce launches the Christmas Season in Livingston County with this festive celebration. Even if your child doesn’t have an assigned part, please come join our school family in declaring “Jesus – our Light and Life” at the Holiday Glow. For questions or volunteer opportunities, contact Nancy Steffe. CCS Service Project From now until Friday, November 10th, we will be collecting gently used or new winter weather clothing.....jackets, snow pants, gloves, hats, boots, etc. These collections will be given to Flint Community Schools for children who need them. About: Cornerstone’s 11th Annual Thanksgiving Dinner. Through Love INC, Fish and Loaves, and The Salvation Army, we invite members of our community to share a traditional “homemade” Thanksgiving Feast. Cornerstone families and others come together and we thank God for His provision to us. Last year nearly 500 gathered in Hess Hall! If you would like to volunteer, there are many opportunities. All of our volunteers are encouraged to join us for dinner, because this is not a “soup kitchen” type dinner!
