BTEC Business Studies Aims: Candidates are expected to develop a critical understanding of contemporary business organisations by acquiring a range of important and transferable skills. These skills are: - manipulating data in a variety of forms and interpreting their results; making judgments and justified recommendations on the basis of available evidence; carrying out research; challenging assumptions and report writing. Details of course: Course outline Edexcel BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma – 60 credits The 60-credit BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma extends the specialist work-related focus of the BTEC Level 3 Certificate and covers the key knowledge and practical skills required in the appropriate vocational sector. The BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma offers greater flexibility and a choice of emphasis through the optional units. It is equivalent to one GCE A Level. Students study six units including: Unit 1: The Business Environment: The aim of this unit is to give learners the fundamental knowledge of a range of business organisations, and the many factors that shape the nature of organisations operating in an increasingly complex business world. Unit 2: Business Resources: The aim of this unit is to develop learner knowledge of the range of human, physical, technological and financial resources required in an organisation, and how the management of these resources can impact on business performance. Unit 3: Introduction to Marketing:
The aim and purpose of this unit is to give learners an understanding of how marketing, research and planning and the marketing mix are used by all organisations.

BTEC Business Studies Qualities expected of student: Students must be genuinely interested in business and appreciate the interaction of business theory and the reality of managing business performance. An enthusiasm to read/investigate widely is essential, particularly newspapers, current affairs programmes and information from the Internet. Students will need to have a GCSE of C or above in both English and math’s. GCSE (Grade C or higher) or BTEC level 2 Business (merit or higher) will be an advantage, but is not mandatory. Assessment: There are no examinations. All six units have to be completed. Students must achieve at least a PASS in all units. Future pathways: Business Studies provides a valuable training in itself and is useful for a wide range of careers, e.g. Accountancy, Law, Marketing, Human Resources, Business Management and Consultancy and Business Administration. Previous students who achieved good grades (merit and or distinction) are currently studying Business related degrees at universities.
