Together we will create a learning community which develops our pupils’ potential, responsibility and independence. July 2016/2 Dear Parents and Carers OUR YEAR 6 Tuesday will be the last day at Hooe for our Year 6 children. I am very pleased to say that they have achieved fantastic results in their Year 6 SATs. More importantly they have been an absolutely fantastic group of children to teach and be with over the years. They have been supportive of each other and welcoming to new members of their class. They have also taken their responsibilities and duties very seriously and they have always been fantastic ambassadors for our school. We have all shared many happy times together and I know that wherever they go and whatever they chose to do in the future we will remain as proud of them as we are now. MRS HOCKEN As many of you will probably be aware Mrs Hocken will be retiring at the end of this term. Mrs Hocken has worked in our school office since 2006 and has been the first point of contact for parents and visitors to our school ever since. She has been an excellent member of staff and I know she will be greatly missed not only by the school staff but also by parents and pupils. I know you will wish to join me in wishing Mrs Hocken the very best in her retirement. HORIZON MAT I am pleased to inform you that we have now received approval from the Regional School Commission Board to form the Horizon MAT (Multi Academy Trust) in partnership with Elburton, Pomphlett and Widewell Primary Schools. The schools that are in the proposed MAT all share the same ethos for their pupils , are high achieving and three of the schools are also well established academies. We are all committed to collaborating in raising standards and broadening opportunities for our pupils. I will write to you again in the new academic year with further information about the Horizon MAT and our plans for the coming year. ANNUAL REPORTS The children’s annual reports will be sent out today. There is a short survey sheet included with the reports this year. We would really appreciate a good return of surveys as the outcomes of the survey will directly influence how we improve our feedback to you about your child’s progress next year. PARENT SURVEY RESULTS We have completed our analysis of the returned Parent Surveys. We received 69 completed surveys and the results have been used to inform our school improvement priorities for the coming year. We were pleased to see that many of the judgements showed an improvement on the previous year and that very positive outcomes were recorded against the following questions in particular:  I am pleased for my child to go to Hooe Primary Academy  My child feels she/he has friends at school  I feel I can approach the school if I have a concern  My child is happy to go to school  I feel that the standards of teaching are high  I feel that the standards of attainment are high  I feel that the standards of behaviour are high  I feel that behaviour problems are dealt with promptly We were also pleased to receive many very positive comments about the quality of school dinners and the approachability and professionalism of our teaching team. Of course it is in the areas where scores were low or lower than last year that we focus in considering improvement priorities for next year. One of the areas identified as needing improvement was the quality of information we provide about your child’s progress. In the last academic year we introduced some new reporting procedures in an attempt to improve communication with parents. We introduced Snapshot reports and our twilight parent Open Evenings. It would appear that these changes have not been as well received as we would have hoped and so I would urge as many of you as possible to return the survey sheets sent out with your child’s report today to help us plan better for next year. We will continue to work hard to meet the needs of all our pupils and parents and I would like to thank every parent who took the time to complete and return a survey.

EARLY RELEASE AT END OF TERM - amendment We will once again be offering an early finish on the final day of term for any families who want to get away early for the summer break. Children can be collected from the playground between 1:30 & 1:45 on the final day of term, after which the normal finish time will apply. As much as we like to help, we will no longer be able to accommodate these requests. Our catering team plan and prepare the staffing commitments and food orders well beforehand and having to provide unordered meals at the last minute uses up valuable time that we don't have. From September no lunch request forms will be accepted after the date specified. BUSINESS ENTERPRISE INITATIVE The children had great fun planning and running their stalls at last week’s open house afternoon. We thought you would like to know how much they raised after repaying their business loans: YEAR 6 LDCR AEFH The Baking Bros CL Smoothies Snack Shack & Tang Mouths RS LJK TOTAL

THANK YOU TO OUR VOLUNTEERS The PTA committee (Mrs Allen, Mrs Stokes, Mrs Beal, Mrs Winsper and Mrs Aurigi) our volunteer reading listener Mrs Gray. Could I also thank parents and carers who have offered help over the year with school trips and special projects. Your help is always welcome and valued. Fresh faces would be much appreciated especially in support of the PTA. They organise an enormous number of events over the school year and extra helpers would guarantee future events. PARENTPAY We seem to have a lot of outstanding balances on ParentPay. Can we ask you to check over the summer holidays and bring your account up to date (Year 6 in particular as you won’t be back in September).
