Don‛t forget to practice your “Musical Alphabet” forwards and backwards: “A B C D E F G...G F E D C B A”! If your valves are feeling kind of sticky, you may need to oil them before you start playing. Remember that when you put the valve back in after oiling it, you must twist until it locks into place. If you don‛t, no sound will come out of your trumpet when you go to play! ● Make sure to start with some work on the mouthpiece. Like we do in class, you should start with some breathing and buzzing through the mouthpiece to get your lips and lungs ready to play! ● Make sure your fingers are in the correct place to hold the instrument properly. The weight of your instrument is supported in your left hand so that your right hand is free to operate the valves.
● Next, take some time to practice each of the three notes by themselves: ○ E - first and second valves ○ D - first and third vavles ○ C - no valves
