Cable Knit Shawl Row 7: K5, H K1, P1, K1, K4; repeat from H 3 times more, ending K1, P1, K7, increase, K1: 45 sts.
Size: 72" wide x 30" deep before fringe
MATERIALS
Row 8: K5, P4, H K1, P1, K1, P4; repeat from H 3 times more, ending K1, P1, K6.
Worsted weight yarn, 20 oz. 14'' size 101/2" straight needles or size needed for gauge one cable needle
Row 9 (cable twist): K5, H K1, P1, K1, work cable twist; repeat from H 3 times more, ending K1, P1, K8, increase, K1: 46 sts.
Gauge: In garter st (knit every row), 4 sts=1" 6 rows (3 ridges)=1"
Row 10: K6, P4, H K1, P1, K1, P4; repeat from H 3 times more, ending K1, P1, K6.
INSTRUCTIONS
Row 11: K5, H K1, P1, K1, K4; repeat from H 4 times more, ending K4, increase, K1: 47 sts.
Row 1: Knit across.
Row 12: K4, H K1, P1, K1, P4; repeat from H 4 times more, ending K1, P1, K6.
CO 36 sts.
Row 2: Knit across to last 2 sts, increase, K1: 37 sts.
Continue in pattern established keeping first and last 5 sts of each row in garter st and increase one st EOR as before AND AT THE SAME TIME twisting cables every 6th row. (NOTE: As you are increasing you will be forming a new 4‑St cable panel every 14th row. You will twist this new cable when you have worked the 4 sts in stockenette st for at least 2 rows.)
Row 3: Knit across. Rows 4‑11: Repeat Rows 2 and 3: 41 sts. You have now completed the garter st edging and will begin working in pattern.
PATTERN
Row 1: K5, H K1, P1, K1, K4; repeat from H 3 times more, ending K1, P1, K4, increase, K1: 42 sts. Row 2: K6, H K1, P1, KI, P4; repeat from H 3 times more ending, K1, P1, K6. Row 3 (cable twist): K5, H K1, P1, K1, sl next 2 sts to cable needle, hold in back of work, K2, K2 from cable needle (cable twist made); repeat from H 3 times more, ending K1, P1, K5, increase, K1: 43 sts. Row 4: K5, P2, H K1, P1, K1, P4; repeat from H 3 times more, ending K1, P1, K6. Row 5: K5, H K1, P1, K1, K4; repeat from H 3 times more, ending K1, P1, K1, K5, increase, K1: 44 sts.
Work until 125 sts are on needle, then work even on 125 Sts, (16 cables) until piece measures 34" from cast on edge. Mark this row for center of shawl. Continue to work even on 125 sts until piece measures same length as from center to last increase row. Continue in pattern, knitting 2 tog (decrease one st) at curved edge EOR until 41 sts rem. Knit 10 rows, continuing to decrease EOR until 36 sts rem. Bind off all sts in knit.
FRINGE
Make single knot fringe. Each tassel contains five 12'' long strands. Tie a tassel in EOR on short ends and curved edge.
Row 6: K5, P3, H K1, P1, K1, P4; repeat from H 3 times more, ending K1, P1, K6.
