This simple quilt combines easy strip piecing and one of my all time favourite block the Ohio Star, add to that some appliquéd cameo’s that have sweet pre-printed garden themed designs on them and ‘voila’ you have a gorgeous quilt.

Ohio Star Blocks:

to make eight blocks Cut:a) from cream floral tonal: 2 (2½” x 42”) strips, subcut 32 (2½” x 2½”) squares b) from 2 coordinating prints: 8 (2½” x 2½”) squares c) from each of 4 assorted fabrics: 4 (3¼” x 3¼”) squares = total of 16 - 3¼” squares d) from cream floral tonal: 2 (3¼” x 42”) subcut 16 (3¼” x 3¼”) squares To make one block: take one 3¼” square from each of the 4 assorted prints c) and draw a line from one corner to the other (diagonally). Place each c) square right sides together with a d) square and sew ¼” either side of the drawn line. Cut on the drawn line to create two HST’s (half square triangles) from each pair. Press open.

You should now have x 8 HST’s in 4 colour combinations e) f) g) and h). Select an e) and an f) and place right sides together with the d) print on opposite sides. Draw a line from one corner to the other (diagonally), stitch ¼” either side of the drawn line. Cut on the drawn line to create two quarter square triangles. Press open.

Join the Ohio star together.

Make a total of 8 star blocks. Finished block size including seam allowance is 6½” x 6½”.

Rail Fence Blocks:

(finished block size is 6” x 6”) From the 10 assorted print fabrics cut a total of 81 (2½” x 6½”) strips (approx. 8 strips form each print)

Make a total of 27 rail fence blocks.
