DO NOW: Solve the triangle below (find all missing angles and sides)
HW: Worksheet
Second Deadline is Monday February 22nd
Hand in a TYPED paper that includes... 1) Your data 2) Preliminary conclusions-- looking at the data what conclusions can you make? 3) Be sure to cite references if the data came from a source rather than an experiment/survey.

Law of Cosines
The Law of Cosines can be used to:
1. Find the length of the 3rd side of a triangle when given the lengths of the other 2 sides and their included angle (the included angle is the angle in between the 2 sides). SAS given
2. Find the measure of an angle in a triangle if the lengths of the 3 sides are given. SSS given
Examples:
1. Given BC = 34, AC = 45, & measure of angle BCA = 87o. Find AB to the nearest tenth.
2. Home plate and the three bases on a Little League baseball field are at the vertices of a square in which each side has a regulation length of 60 feet. If the pitcher's mound is 46 feet from home plate, what is the number of feet to the nearest tenth from the pitcher's mound to first base?

3. In triangle XYZ, x = 9, y = 10, and z = 3. Find, to the nearest degree, the measure of the greatest angle.
4. Two lighthouses are 12 miles apart along a straight shore. A ship is 15 miles from one lighthouse and 20 miles from the other. Find, to the nearest degree, the measure of the angle between the lines of sight from the ship to each lighthouse.
5. A walking trail is laid out in the shape of a triangle. The lengths of the three paths that make up the trail are 2,500 meters, 2,000 meters, and 1,800 meters. Determine, to the nearest minute, the measure of the greatest angle of the trail.
