Chairperson’s Message by Brian Senkbeil
What a busy summer it’s been! I know you’ve all been working through the miserable heat, but I hope you’ve taken time to enjoy a vacation or two - or at the very least, a day by the pool or lake. No matter how busy we are, or how much we may need to work, it is so important to take time to enjoy life and appreciate all the good things we do have. Speaking of how good we have it, we can always count on our members to give to those less fortunate. Our first Remodelors Council TP Run was a great success. We hauled a pickup load of toilet paper, soap, toothbrushes, and other necessities to the Lancaster County Community Mental Health Center. Most of their clients are on low fixed incomes—after rent, medication and food, have very little left to spend on these necessities. Our donation was greatly appreciated. Thank you to everyone who donated to this cause in the middle of your busy summer! Governor Heineman held a press conference June 30 on the remodeling sales tax repeal (effective July 1). The conference was at Scott & Ann Barnett’s home, which was remodeled by Reese Construction before the LB 968 was passed. Thank you to Herb Reese and the Barnetts for allowing this home to be used as an example of the money that could have been saved for this family if sales tax on remodeling labor had not been part of the picture. While the repeal of sales tax on remodeling is a huge victory for remodelers and homeowners in Nebraska, the regulations surrounding what is or is not taxable can still be confusing. See page 2 for information on accessing Contractor Information Guides on the Nebraska Revenue Department’s web site. In addition to working hard, helping out the less fortunate and celebrating the repeal of the sales tax, the Remodelors Council has been doing what we do best - having fun! We sponsored two FAC’s this summer, and got a chance to network and socialize with members in a different environment. The FAC’s have provided a great chance to get to know some of our members better, to meet spouses and friends, and to relax after work on a Friday. We hope you have enjoyed the FAC’s so far - we will do another one soon! Another adventure was the Remodelors Council Officers own “TP Run.” Lori, Eric, Alissa and I spent Friday afternoon, July 28, riding around on Eric’s vintage fire truck with a cooler full of ice cream bars. We stopped at a few Remodelors Council member offices, and if they had supplies for our TP Run, rewarded them with ice cream bars on a hot and steamy afternoon. We had a great time seeing people at their place of business and handing out ice cold treats. Of course, riding on the back of a fire truck and hitting the siren as we pulled in to parking lots was the best part! See the insert for the pictures! Don’t forget to take advantage of our final fun event of the summer - the Remodelors Council Golf Tournament on August 18 at HiMark. The tournament is FULL - but we love to have volunteers grill and help with the various contests. This is such a fun day, you don’t want to miss out! Call Alissa at 423-4225 if you would like to hang out at the coolest golf tournament in Lincoln! That’s all for now! Enjoy the rest of your summer, and “peace, love & remodeling!”

Governor Holds News Conference Remodeling Sales Tax Repeal
Dear Mr. Barber: I am writing this letter to show my greatest appreciation to you, Brian Senkbeil, and your fellow colleagues in the Lincoln Home Builders Association. I was chosen by the Building Construction staff and NAHB student chapter faculty members at Southeast Community Milford to receive the summer scholarship given to only four people in the NAHB student chapter. I wanted to let you Governor Heineman held a news know how much of an honor this is for me. Contractor Information on LB 968
Despite the repeal on sales tax on remodeling labor, there are still several instances when sales tax should be applied. To find out the details on the law, access the Information Guides on the Nebraska Department of Revenue’s web site. Go to www.revenue.ne.gov. Click on “Businesses” on the lefthand menu. Then click on “Contractor Information.” The Information Guides should be accessible on the web site within the next couple of weeks.
