The Chestnut Hill College Fitness and Recreation component strives to provide a variety of opportunities that contribute to and promote the six dimensions of wellness; physical, emotional, social, spiritual, intellectual, and environmental. We are dedicated to making Recreation activity and intramurals a vibrant part of campus life. Our goal is to continuously create and provide a competitive, safe, and enjoyable atmosphere that encourages civility, teamwork and leadership development, as well as, a lifelong pattern of positive recreational activity regardless of physical ability.

Sand Volleyball Court: To check out a volleyball, please bring a valid ID to the front desk of the fitness center. Tennis Courts: Anyone wishing to use the tennis courts should first contact, Sandy Dickson at [email protected] to check availability and schedule.

Sorgenti Gymnasium: Storage rooms are to remain locked in Sorgenti Gymnasium. Students may check out a piece of equipment (i.e. a basketball or volleyball), at the front desk of the fitness center, by showing a valid ID card. Open hours will be posted at the Fitness and Recreation Center, as well as on the Fitness and Recreation webpage. Student-athletes are not to engage in organized practice without the presence of a coaching staff member. Open hours are for recreation purposes only.

Bicycles: Bicycles are available for recreation upon request for up to three hours use; bicycles are available in the Griffin’s Den. Wear a helmet and use caution at all times. Skateboards, roller blades, bicycles and scooters are not permitted inside campus buildings or on campus property other than macadam surfaces

Chestnut Hill College: Pool Policies Sanitation Requirements 1. All swimmers must have appropriate swim attire 2. A shower is recommended before and after pool usage 3. Persons with illness are asked to refrain from swimming 4. The Pool is only open to Current Students, Faculty and Staff. NO GUESTS ARE ALLOWED IN THE CHESTNUT HILL COLLEGE POOL. Safety Requirements 1.No one will be allowed to swim without a lifeguard on duty Access is allowed only during posted hours. Hours are posted at the pool and on the website. 2. An adult must actively supervise children under the age of 6 and/or those individuals who require a lifejacket in the water at all times 3. There is a limit of 3 children under the age of 6 per 1 adult 4. U.S. Coast Guard approved lifejackets and flotation devices are required of all individuals who cannot swim 5. Personal inflatable devices will not be allowed in the pool

6. Only drinks in sealable plastic containers will be allowed on the pool deck 7. No food or drink is allowed in the water 8. Horseplay or inappropriate equipment usage in the pool will not be tolerated 9. Staff are responsible for the safety of the pool and reserve the right to ask any patron to leave if they feel it necessary. Lap Swim 1. Please be considerate of other swimmers in the lanes 2. Lap swim is permitted during posted times only

Chestnut Hill College Fitness Center Policies and Procedures I. Membership/ Eligible User’s Access 1. To be eligible for membership and use of the Recreation facilities, an individual must be a current student, faculty or staff member with a current and valid Campus Card identification. Note: Persons with identification cards which cannot be read by scanner, and/or whose Chestnut Hill College status is not active will not be permitted in facility. 2. All individuals entering the facilities during regular hours must present a valid and current Chestnut Hill College ID. Each participant is required to have a signed liability waiver on file with the Fitness and Recreation Department, and have their ID programmed by campus security in order to utilize the facilities. This applies to recreation participants, varsity athletes, students in Physical Education classes, and guests (see Guest Policy below). *Please note that all students, faculty, and staff members who graduate, transfer, withdrawal or are no longer employed by the College will not be granted access to the Fitness Center. This will occur immediately after your affiliation with the College ends. This includes your Campus Card Access, once your affiliation as a member of the College has ended your card will be deactivated immediately. 3. Guest Policy: Current students with identification are permitted to host one guest during the fall and spring semester weekends only (Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays) under the following guidelines: - The Guest log must be filled out by the Fitness Center Staff and a waiver of liability must be signed by the guest before access to the facilities will be granted. - Upon arriving at the facility, guests must report to the fitness center desk and present their photo ID. - Sponsoring individuals are responsible for the conduct of their guests within the Fitness Center and must accompany their guests at all times. 4. The Recreation Department Staff maintains the right to refuse or revoke membership privileges at any time. Such decisions will be made at the discretion of the Director of Fitness and Recreation. 6. Student ID’s are non-transferable; Unauthorized ID’s will be confiscated and may result in loss of member privileges of the facility.

Summer/Break/Holiday Hours of Operation*: Hours of operation will vary. Please check our website for updated information. *An adjustment to the hours of operation may be made at the discretion of the Fitness and Recreation Staff at any time during the year. Inclement Weather Policy: In the event that inclement weather closes the College, every effort will be made to open the Fitness Center by 12:00pm. If the College closes early due to inclement weather, the Center will also close. All updates will be made to the Center main phone outgoing voicemail, and will also be communicated via the website. III. Utilization ** The following policies and procedures have been created to serve participants and make the fitness center more enjoyable for all of its users 1. The Fitness Center is for the use of currently enrolled students, faculty and staff, of Chestnut Hill College only. 2. Coaches of varsity athletic teams must coordinate any team workouts or meetings in the Fitness Center with the Director of Fitness and Recreation. The Fitness Center will not close at any point during normal operating hours for any Athletic team workouts. IV. Attire For safety purposes, proper attire is required at all times. Proper attire includes: 1. Sneakers are mandatory 2. Shirts must be worn at all times. Full length t-shirts and tank tops are acceptable. 3. Participants are encouraged to bring towels to protect the equipment and improve sanitation. 4. Clothing should be appropriate and refrain from including profane or inflammatory messages on clothing. 5. Any type of jeans (full length or cut-off) or pants (with belts) that may result in damage to equipment will not be allowed in the Fitness Center. ** The Fitness Center staff reserves the right to judge the acceptability of all items listed above.

V. Fitness Center Rules and Regulations

1. It is the responsibility of the user to be aware of all building regulations 2. All equipment must be used in the manner for which it is designed. If equipment is used in any other way, it may cause injury to the participant and others in the area. 3. Please familiarize yourself with equipment before using it, and ask for assistance if you need it. 4. Damaged or defective equipment should be reported immediately to the Fitness Center Staff. 5. Do not remove any signage from damaged or out of order equipment. 6. Complete all exercises in a controlled manner, and use a spotter when necessary. 7. Lifting chalk is not allowed 8. Do not drop dumbells or other free weight equipment at any time. If the dumbbells are dropped, over time the bonds that keep the weights bonded together will break. If they become too loose, they will have to be removed from the floor. 9. Clamps or clips must be used on all free weight bars for participant safety. 10. Replace dumbbells and weight plates on the proper racks when you’re finished with them. 11. All dumbbells and weights must be re-racked after use. This will keep the room neat and in order, and to prevent injury. 12. Spotters are strongly recommended for max lift attempts. 13. All equipment should be cleaned after each use. Paper towel dispensers and cleaning supplies are located throughout the Fitness Center, and it is the responsibility of the participant to wipe the equipment down after use. 14. Please report all injuries to the Fitness Center Staff immediately. 15. Participants assume all risk for personal injury. Should we deem it necessary for an injured person to receive medical assistance, we will contact appropriate medical personnel at the person’s own expense. 16. Cardiovascular machine use is limited to 30 minutes during peak hours to give everyone a chance to use the equipment. 17. The stereo system and channels for TV’s will be operated by the Fitness Center personnel only. 18. The Fitness Center staff reserves the right to eject any individuals who do not abide by the posted regulations.

VI. General Facility Rules and Regulations: These regulations apply to all areas of the Fitness Center 1. All participants must present a valid ID and swipe through card reader upon entrance to the facility. 2. The Fitness Center reserves the right to eject any individuals who do not abide by the posted regulations. 3. It is the responsibility of the user to be aware of building regulations. 4. The use of cell phones in the fitness center, is prohibited due to safety concerns and privacy issues. 5. Food and beverages are prohibited except closed, plastic containers of water. NO FOOD OR GLASS BOTTLES OR CANS WILL BE ALLOWED IN THE FITNESS CENTER. 6. Water in closed, re-sealable plastic containers is allowed. All other drinks, food, and glass containers are confined to designated lounge areas. 7. No alcoholic beverages will be permitted inside the Fitness Center. 8. No chewing gum or sunflower seeds will be permitted in the Fitness Center 9. Smoking, tobacco products, drugs and alcohol are strictly prohibited. 10. No children under the age of 16 may use the center at any time. 11. No personal training is permitted unless special arrangements have been made 12. Profanity, abusive language or flagrant behavior will not be tolerated. Persistent use of such behavior deemed unacceptable by the Fitness Center Staff will result in forfeiture of utilization access. 13. No spitting on the floor of the Fitness Center. 14. Sneakers are mandatory, 15. Bicycles, skateboards, and roller blades are prohibited in activity areas. 16. Shirts must be worn at all times. 17. Fitness Center facilities may not be used for private instruction or to provide services not approved in writing by the Fitness Center (e.g personal training, private instruction etc.) 18. Animals are not allowed (except guide/aid animals). 19. The use of photographic equipment to take pictures of any person in the Fitness Center without the person’s and the Athletic Department’s permission is strictly prohibited. This prohibition includes cell phones with built in camera devices. 20. Spirited competition is encouraged, but unsportsmanlike conduct and the use of profanity is prohibited. Additional rules and regulations will be posted in the Fitness Center. 21. All Advertisements/ Fliers/ Posters must be approved by the Fitness Center and Athletic Department prior to posting in any spaces within the Center and must first be approved by Student Activities, and include stamp of approval.

VII. Personal Belongings 1. Coats, Books, all bags, etc. cannot be left near exercise equipment or carried throughout the Fitness Center. Place all belongings in the cubbies. 2. Lockers/showers are available in designated locker rooms. 3. Chestnut Hill College is not responsible for personal articles left in the Fitness Center. 4. Valuable lost and found items such as wallets, cell phones, keys and student ID cards will be sent to the Campus Police or the Fitness Center Staff within 24 hours of being found by Staff.

VIII. Fitness Center Student Staff Responsibilities: Front Desk Staff acts as the primary contact for members, and is responsible for enhancing their experience in any way possible. Front desk staff is responsible for ensuring that all members: swipe their campus ID card to gain access to the facilities; record any campus card issues/problems; make sure every member fills out a fitness center liability waiver; register all guests on weekends making sure that they also fill out a waiver; manage incoming phone calls; be aware of all fitness center policies and procedures; check out equipment; assist members in attaining answers to their questions and inquiries. IX. Equipment Check-out Rules: Only participants with a valid Chestnut Hill College ID may check out equipment. Guests are not permitted to borrow equipment All equipment can be borrowed from the Front Check-in Counter. Equipment available for users:  Basketballs  Medicine balls  Weight belts  Jump ropes  Dip belts  Squat bar pad  Volleyballs  Soccer Balls Participants are solely responsible for any damages that occur to any equipment that is checked out on their account.

VII. Locker Room Policies & Procedures Student Locker Rooms There are Male and Female locker rooms available next to pool entry door.

All patrons may use lockers on a daily basis ONLY. It is highly recommended that participants use a lock when storing personal belongings. Locks left on lockers will be removed nightly. The College as well as the Fitness Center is not responsible for lost or stolen items.

IX. Emergency Procedures 1. In the event of a medical emergency, call x7777 for security and notify them that you are in need of immediate medical assistance and they should call 911 and direct the emergency vehicle to the Fitness Center. 2. Provide appropriate care until further assistance arrives. 3. There will be an AED located at the reception area. 4. There will be emergency call boxes on each level of the Fitness Center. 5. Staff will complete an Injury Report form that will obtain all information from witnesses. 6. In the event of an incident (i.e. fight, inebriated participant, broken or misused equipment, confrontation, etc.) determine whether security needs to be contacted. 7. There are fire pull alarms and fire extinguishers located throughout the facility in clearly marked locations. 8. In the event of a building evacuation alarm, all participants must exit the building via the nearest emergency exit and remain outside the building until further instruction is given.
