A NEW CHURCH COMING SOON NORTHEAST SAN ANTONIO

TO

“So that in everything He might be preeminent…” (Col. 1:18) The Place

Christ Church exists to savor God’s grace, build God’s community, and join in God’s mission…all for God’s glory.

Luke and Marianne Evans 10021 E. Rocky Wash Dr. Tucson, AZ 85748

San Antonio is now the seventh largest city in the US. The city population is 1.3 million and the metro area population is over 2 million. Combined with the Austin metropolitan area, over 4 million people live in this region. San Antonio is a strategic city. Along with the unprecedented growth of the last twenty years, San Antonio is also a cultural crossroads with a thriving economy and an increasingly diverse populace. As of 2010, 63% of the city is Hispanic. The growing industry and diversity lead to an amazing blend of cultures, values, priorities, and challenges. Long known as a tourist destination, San Antonio has become a world city as well.

Our Role Christ Church’s strategy is to locate in the Northeast corridor of the metro area. North of Loop 410 and in between I-35 and I-10 lies an area of tremendous potential. Suburban communities like Schertz, Cibolo, Converse, Selma, Universal City, Live Oak, and Windcrest are booming with new homes, new families, and new opportunities for the gospel to take root. This part of the city is thriving economically and culturally. Between 2000 and 2010 it grew 67%! The area is also home to Randolph AFB and provides easy access to the entire metro area through I-35 and Loop 1604. It is a strategic location in the metro San Antonio area, and we are excited to be a part of it!

“The vigorous, continual planting of new congregations is the single most crucial strategy for the growth of the Body of Christ in any city and the continual revival of the existing churches in the city.” - Tim Keller

The Need

We long to be a part of a movement of the gospel that transforms the lives of people and the face of the region. There is a great need for the life-giving power of the Gospel to have an impact in the city. That is our mission. Will you consider joining us on this journey? What could be more exciting than to be a part of God’s great work!

Dream with us... “For what we proclaim is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, with ourselves as your servants for Jesus’ sake. For God, who said, ‘Let light shine out of darkness,’ has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.” - 2 Cor. 4:5-6

The merely religious are faced with Christ’s call and genuinely follow him for the first time.

People have a new sense that they are forgiven and loved as God’s children.

Skeptics, “sinners”, and seekers are expected, welcomed, and transformed by the Holy Spirit.

The focus is on the gospel, and secondary issues are just that: secondary.

The difficult questions that people face are dealt with humbly and honestly.

Relationships are valued over programs. People are prioritized above policy.

Christians are approachable, not arrogant; slow to speak and quick to listen.

Everyone is involved in significant discipling relationships.

Imagine a church where: 

The gospel is being deeply ingrained into peoples’ lives and producing significant growth in grace –victory over sin and triumph in Jesus.

All are free to be open, honest, and authentic about their struggles in the context of deep community. We work hard to establish trust, peace, and humility towards one another. Christians who are tired and wounded find refreshment and renewal.

The expectation in worship is to meet with God and experience his Joy.

The Word of God is highly valued and people are encouraged and challenged to dig deeply into it.

Money, gifts, and talents are unleashed for service instead of hoarded.

There is a palpable sense that God is up to something special in our region and that we are a part of it.

Leaders are developed through one-on-one and group discipleship.

Sacrifices are made to see new churches planted, campus ministries started, and missionaries sent.

Parents are being equipped to pass the faith to their children, and marriages are experiencing renewed vitality in the midst of struggle.

There is unity with all types of churches and ministries to serve the city and do mission.

Our city is loved and embraced. Its needs are recognized and impacted. Our city leaders are glad we are here.

O u r S t r at e g y 1. We want to develop personal relationships. This is central to our vision, because we believe that the gospel works through relationships and networks of people. We want to tap into the personal networks that people are living in and build a new community around the gospel. 2. We want to engage with and minister to vital parts of NE San Antonio, especially Randolph Air Force base, school systems, sports leagues, neighborhood groups, homeowners associations, and city councils. 3. We want to gather people for worship. We are committed to vibrant and joyful worship, and seek to begin a regular worship service as soon as we are able to do so with excellence and wisdom. 4. We want to join with others that are already doing ministry in our city and seek ways to collaborate together. Partnerships with other churches, ministries, and people are central to our strategy.

W ha t D o We R e a l ly Va l ue ? We need to not only dream, but consider what we really value. In other words, what do we really want to be known for? What will shape the way we relate to one another and to our city? The Gospel Changes Everything The gospel is “the power of God” (Romans 1:16) that changes not only unbelievers but believers as well. The gospel is the solution not just for our spiritual problems but for all our personal problems and all societal problems. We are committed to bringing everything we do in line with the gospel.

Loving Community

Partnership and Unity

The gospel completely transforms our relationships with one another. As a loving community, we are free to be vulnerable and authentic with our brokenness and sin, yet also hopeful that the gospel changes all of our relationships. The gospel both humbles us and assures us that we are loved.

We want to work with other churches and express unity with them whenever possible. The gospel makes us one, and we celebrate what God is doing through other churches and ministries in the area. We reject unnecessary division, and seek to learn from different churches and traditions to demonstrate the reality of the gospel to the city.

Missional Living The gospel makes us a people who are empowered to live for others, not for ourselves. We want to be a church for the unchurched, the burned out, the skeptical, and the wayward. We want to welcome the lost.

Joyful Worship

Commitment to Discipleship

Worship is at the core of who we are. Christ Church will place a high priority on joyful and reverent worship of our God. To be joyful means we will happily and genuinely worship Jesus with all of who we are –heart, soul, and mind. To be reverent means we will humbly and lovingly bow before our Creator and King, in awe of his holiness and grandeur.

We value intentional relationships and friendships that spur one another onward in grace. The gospel allows us to both minister to others in the power of the Spirit and receive ministry from others when we have need. We have the freedom and opportunity through faith to encourage, rebuke, admonish, and come alongside each other as we live life together.

Love for our Place We love our city and seek its welfare. We want to be a part of the flourishing of our city. We value and approve of what is good and beautiful in our culture, and we mourn and strive to change what is bad and ugly. We recognize the strategic importance of the San Antonio area and long to reach the city through the message of the gospel and works of mercy and service.

Christ Church – what’s in a name? Why the name Christ Church? We believe this name wonderfully expresses the richness of the Christian gospel. Christ-the promised, longexpected one-has come to deliver us from bondage, sin, and death! We as a church want to celebrate what Christ has done in his death and resurrection, and proclaim what he continues to do in our hearts even now.

“I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation for everyone who believes.” - Romans 1:16 PAGE 3
