1 c. sugar 3/4 c. shortening 1 egg 1/4 c. molasses 1 t. vanilla Combine above ingredients and mix well. Add: 2 c. flour 1 t. cinnamon 1 t. ginger 1 t. soda 1 t. salt Mix and chill for several hours or overnight. Shape into walnut size balls and roll in sugar. Place on ungreased cookie sheets. Bake at 375 degrees for 8-10 minutes. Makes approximately 3 dozen.
