The Cotton Club BOM quilt features forty-five 5” quilt blocks and finishes at 78” x 85”. The designers borrowed common elements from original quilts of the mid 1800’s by employing a strip-set design. The quilt blocks are created in months one through eleven and the quilt is assembled in month twelve. This quilt is for intermediate to advanced quilters.

Girls Just Wanna Have Fun!
We just LOVE these days that Marsha can come up and show us the neatest new notions and patterns in the industry. The event is free and well worth your trip in. She is a sales rep for the largest quilting distributor in the country AND a quilter herself, so she knows what’s new and cool. We can hardly wait.
It’s not too late to sign plan to attend Girls Just Wanna Have Fun!!! This is our August reatreat (August 18-21) that we’ve held for the last few years. It’s full of fun, absolutely stressless, a GREAT time to get a lot of sewing done, and a wonderful way to spend time sewing with friends. You’ll probably make a few new friends along the way, too!! The cost is $160 for the weekend and it’s held at the Courtyard Marriot on Wells Road. Be sure to ask for more information if this sounds like fun to you. We’d love to have you join us!
Moda Maniacs & Sweet Pickins Club July is time to sign up again for this club that meets the first Saturday morning every month. The cost is $75 and it buys you a FREE charm pack of every Moda fabric line that comes into the store for 6 months. We also share a Sweet Pickins newsletter (with great recipes!) and a free pattern every month. Every other month, we have a Saturday Stay and Sew for club members that is well- attended and VERY fun. Come join the fun and become a maniac!!
On the road to BERNINA University! Martha, Nancy and Kathie are traveling to San Antonio, TX for BERNINA University in July, so there will not be a meeting of the BERNINA club that month. In August, though, plan to attend as Kathie E is doing a demo on BERNINA’s newly improved binding tool (yes…you can use it on quilts now!!) AND we’ll have a recap from BU and all the new product information that we learned in Texas. Be sure to attend on either Saturday, August 13 or Tuesday, August 9.
Calico Bucks are Back!!! Every time you spend money here at Calico Station in July and August you’ll earn CALICO BUCKS, depending on how much you spend. Keep track of them, and they’ll be “legal tender” at our auction on Friday, September 3rd at 1:00 pm. At the auction, we usually have classes, quilts, fabric, services, etc. “for sale” and the only money recognized are CALICO BUCKS. All sales are “bucks-eligible” in July and August with the exception of sewing machines, software and cabinets.
Dinner With Vern Plan now to join Michele and the gang on July 15 or August 12th, for friendship and sewing. You bring what you want to sew and settle in with friends for a great night. Vern promises you’ll have fun. Fee: $10 per month.

Fun and easy beginner quilt that goes together rather quickly.

Another 3 fabric pattern. Fun to put together. Hummingbird Monday, August 8, 15 9:30-11:30 OR Monday, August 8, 15 6:00-8:00 Instructor: Nancy Fee: $30 This darling pattern has been a difficult pattern to piece but no more! Using the 30 degree triangle in a novel way allows even a beginner to have success with this quilt. It’s a great pattern to showcase your 30s prints, use up scraps, and interpret in any coloration you choose – I had a ball using dots and stripes! This pattern is given in 3 sizes, and utilizes a larger block for the bedsize quilts. Grace House Quilt Wednesday, August 10, 24 9:30-11:30 OR Wednesday, August 10, 24 6:00-8:00 Instructor: Martha Fee: $30 This gorgeous quilt combines house blocks with chainy, log cabin-type blocks for a great effect! We have a fabric kit for it or you can select fabrics of your choice. Either way, you’ll love the quilt! Dresden Plate Thursday, August 11 9:30-1:30 Instructor: Martha Fee: $30 Learn to make a very traditional quilt with less-than-traditional methods. You can make one block, a wallhanging, or a huge quilt once you’ve mastered the one technique.
Drunkard’s Path Thursday, August 25 9:30-1:30 Instructor: Martha Fee: $30 Come, spend a few hours and learn this great technique for making a wonderful quilt. No curved piecing – I promise!! Instead, we’ll appliqué those curves and take all the work out of the process.
Finishing, Embroidery & Other Techniques Kanzashi Flowers Monday, July 11 9:30-1:30 Instructor: Nancy Fee: $30 Kanzashi is the art of folding squares of fabric into 3 dimensional flower petals. This class will teach students how to fold and make these fun flowers using both traditional Japanese methods and a simplified method using Kanashi flower makers from the Clover Company. We’ll explore different flower shapes and make a simple applique wall hanging using the flowers as well as show other projects using the flowers. It’s a fun and addictive project that will have you wanting to make an entire garden of flowers! Binding Tuesday, July 19 6:00-8:00 Instructor: Pam Fee: $15 There are right ways to do it. Let us take the work out of that so every corner of your quilt is just right! English Paper Piecing Tuesday, August 9 9:30-1:30 Instructor: Pam Fee: $15 Let Pam show you this fun way to piece difficult pieces like a Grandmother’s Flower Garden. It’s relaxing and a hand-sewing skill you take anywhere! Fusible Machine Applique Tuesday, August 16 9:30-11:30 Instructor: Pam Fee: $15 This is such a simple technique, but we can show you the right way to do it. In one short class, you’ll learn to do all the cool appliqué projects you see in the store and in the quilting books. Class Policies 1. A deposit must be given at time of registration. All fees are for instruction only unless otherwise noted. 2. Classes will start promptly. If you’re late to class, expect to be at a disadvantage until you’re able to catch up. 3. Ask for a supply list at registration so you will have all items necessary for class. Our staff is trained and will be happy to help you choose fabrics and supplies for your classes and projects. 4. A limited number of sewing machines are available for rent at a cost of $5.00 per class. 5. Class cancellations: We reserve the right to cancel classes and will make every effort to do so in a timely manner.Students may make cancellations up to 2 days in advance and receive full refund. 6. Quilt classes at Calico Station are designed to assemble a quilt top. In order to finish the project we encourage you to take a machine or hand quilting class.
