Projects

Mechanical Gripper Fall 2017 • Designed and manufactured a gripper with capabilities of grasping and releasing an object when a motor is activated, and then reversed. Gripper also able to successfully hold on to object while traveling through dynamic swinging motions. • Output torque, structural strength, and gear ratios all considered. Solidworks used to model the part and run simulations for analysis. Crane Project Jan. 2017-May 2017 • Designed an aluminum crane, with a maximum allowable weight of 20 ounces, to lift a 2-pound weight a minimum of 2 inches. • Required analysis of torque, torsion, and bending to ensure strength and prevent failures. SPIRIT Racing Systems Sept. 2015-May 2016 • Designing a gravity racer. Work on steering and braking components, as well as input on the pusher to minimize energy lost. • Design and construction of wheel heater, using a microcontroller and infrared sensors to control temperature. Fiberglass used for insulation of the component. Mousetrap Car Fall 2015 • Constructed a vehicle that traveled 15 feet, reversed direction, and came back 15 feet. Done in team of 3. Use of Solidworks and laser cutter to design parts.

Leadership

Senator, National Society of Black Engineers Aug. 2016-Present • Act as the liaison between the other regional chapters and our chapter. • Report national changes and updates to the executive board. • Plan several networking and academic events in the Pittsburgh area.

Experience

Manufacturing Engineering Co-op, General Electric Aviation May 2017-Aug. 2017 • Supervising processes for repair of tube and duct assemblies that carry fuel, oil, hydraulic fluid, air, potable water, coolant, etc. • Repair part capacity planning and analysis to optimize shop floor efficiency in regard to the repair and shipping of customer orders. Mechanic, SPIRIT Racing Systems Fall 2015-Spring 2016 • Sustain and improve carbon fiber race vehicle (buggy), equipped with steering, braking, polyurethane wheels and safety modules. • Optimize available time and resources to increase performance, safety, and durability of buggy. NSBE SEEK Mentor July 2016-Aug. 2016 • Operated a classroom of 15 students, instructing different aspects of STEM. • Collaborated with other mentors to devise plans of instruction.
