Transporting Your Chromebook:
West Washington Jr./Sr. High School will provide each student with a carrying case to transport your Chromebook. Personalized media are subject to inspection and must follow the West Washington Community School Corporation acceptable use policy. If, for any reason, your Chromebook must be returned to factory settings any personal items may be lost.
Using Your Chromebook: The Chromebook needs to be at school, fully charged, every day. The Chromebook will be your primary access to all course information, school messages, announcements, calendars, academic handbooks, and student handbooks, as well as, an integral part of the curriculum you will need to access for each class. Students are responsible for bringing 5
fully charged Chromebooks to school each day and for bringing the Chromebook to each class. Charging stations will be available during lunch if the Chromebook needs an additional boost throughout the day. In the event that the Chromebook becomes unusable a loaner Chromebook will be issued to the student for the remainder of the day.

All devices are remotely managed and maintained. Any behavior deemed to be in violation of school policy will be subject to consequences. All Chromebooks and Google Drive accounts can be accessed by school officials at any time.
Sound: Sound must be muted at all times unless permission is obtained from the teacher for instructional purposes.
Managing Your Files and Saving Your Work: All students have Google Drive accounts. All work should be saved to Google Drive. This will ensure that all files are accessible from any device with internet access. Students using Google Drive will not need to save their work, as Drive automatically saved.
Software On Chromebooks: Originally Installed Software: Chromebook software is delivered via the Chrome Web Store. These are webbased applications that do not require installation space on a hard drive. Some applications, such as Google Drive, are available for offline use. The software originally installed on the Chromebook must remain on the Chromebook in useable condition and easily accessible at all times. All Chromebooks are supplied with the latest Google Chrome Operating System (OS). The Chrome OS will automatically install updates when the computer is shutdown and restarted. 6
From time to time the school may add software applications for use in a particular course. This process will be automatic with virtually no impact on the students. Applications that are no longer needed will automatically be removed by the school.
Virus Protection: No virus protection is necessary on a Chromebook due to it’s unique design.
Additional Software: Students are unable to install additional software on their Chromebook other than what has been approved by West Washington Jr./Sr. High School. All software and apps on the Chromebooks will be installed and managed wirelessly by the school. Additional software can be added by teacher request and with approval of the technology department.
Protecting Your Chromebook: Students are responsible for protecting their Chromebooks throughout the day. It is recommended that the Chromebook stays with the student at all times or be securely stored in a locker. It is the expectation that the Chromebook be taken home each night, therefore students need to be responsible for any time the Chromebook is left unattended during extracurricular activities. Chromebooks should never be left unattended in a vehicle.
Chromebook Identification: Each Chromebook will have an asset tag that MUST stay on the device. A unique barcode assigned to each student and the student’s username will be visible on the tag.
Chromebooks Undergoing Repair: Chromebooks that are in need of repair should be immediately taken to the Technology Office. A Chromebook will be loaned to the student through the library to be used until the Chromebook can be repaired or replaced. If repair is needed due to malicious damage, the school may revoke takehome privileges of that device. Repaired Chromebooks will end up with the original factory setting as first received. It is important that students keep their school data synced to cloud drives so documents and class projects will not be lost. Personal information that cannot be replaced should be kept at home on an external storage device. 7
Accidental Damage or Loss Protection: As a part of the 1:1 Chromebook initiative at West Washington Jr./Sr. High School, the school is requiring the purchase of accidental damage insurance prior to the deployment of the Chromebook to your child. West Washington Community Schools will be the sole provider of this insurance. Under this insurance policy the Chromebooks are protected against accidental damage.
