CLARKSON OPENS ECAC HOCKEY PLAY with HOME GAME vs ARCHRIVAL ST. LAWRENCE
oasting a 6-1-1 overall record, a lofty ranking of third in the nation, and coming off an impressive sweep of two Top-10 teams, Clarkson University Women’s Hockey rolls into ECAC Hockey play Tuesday night. The Golden Knights, guided by second-year co-head coaches Shannon and Matt Desrosiers, begin their sixth campaign of conference action by hosting archrival St. Lawrence University in a 7:00 p.m. game at Cheel Arena. The Green and Gold are unbeaten on their home ice this season with a 5-0-1 mark and have outscored their opponents 26-8 in Potsdam. Clarkson rose to the challenge this past weekend when it overwhelmed two of the top teams in the nation to open up a five-game home stand in impressive fashion. On Friday, the Knights jumped out to a 3-0 first-period lead against third-ranked University of New Hampshire en route to a 6-2 victory over the Hockey East powerhouse. It was even better for the Green and Gold on Saturday as they cruised to a 7-2 triumph over ninth-ranked Boston University. Named ECAC Hockey Player of the Week, senior captain Britney Selina (Thornhill, ONT) was one of many standouts for the Knights in the weekend sweep. She scored the gamewinner against UNH with a shorthanded, unassisted tally and also added a power-play goal in the victory over the highly-rated Wildcats. Selina, Clarkson’s all-time leading scorer, came back on Saturday with four assists in the rout of Boston University. Selina, who has 123 career points (4479), finished with six points (2-4) against two of the best teams in the nation. Selina (4-8), sophomore standout Juana Baribeau (Amos, QUE) and senior Dominique Thibault (L’Original, ONT), lead the Knights’ potent offense with 12 points each. Baribeau is Clarkson’s leading goal scorer with eight. Thibault has five goals and seven assist, after posting a five-point (3-2) weekend. Junior Melissa Waldie (Newmarket, ONT) has seven goals and four assists through the first eight games and is tied for the national lead in power-play markers with four. Coming off a four-point weekend (1-3), senior assistant captain Carlee Eusepi (Oakville, ONT) leads the defensemen with five points. Selected as ECAC Hockey Goaltender of the Week for the third time this season, junior Lauren Dahm (Baldwinsville, NY) has continued her impressive play from her first two years, boasting a .934 save percentage and a 1.36 goals against average. St. Lawrence enters league play ranked 7th in the country and owning a 2-1-3 overall record. The Saints, guided by head coach Chris Wells, are coming off a pair of hard earned ties this past weekend. St. Lawrence rallied in both games at Apple4 THINGS TO ton Arena, forcing a 2-2 draw with Boston University KNOW ABOUT and a 3-3 deadlock with UNH. The Saints are 2-0-3 CLARKSON HOCKEY since their season-opening 2-1 loss to UConn. Clarkson is 2-10-2 against St. Lawrence with both wins in the series coming at Cheel Arena. Last year the teams split the regular season with the Knights claiming a 2-1 victory in Potsdam on February 4. The Saints won two close games in the ECAC Hockey playoffs (4-3ot, 2-1) at Appleton Arena in late February to end Clarkson’s season.
