[email protected]) Disaster Recovery Specialist On December 26th a series of seven large tornadoes struck four counties in North Texas. Thousands of homes were completely destroyed, especially in the Dallas County communities of Rowlett, Garland and Glenn Heights. Texas Baptists Disaster Recovery is responding to these cities by mobilizing volunteers to clear debris and rebuild damaged homes. Long term recovery efforts in each of these areas is beginning. Close to 25% of families in Garland and Rowlett do not have insurance or were greatly underinsured.
Housing at First Baptist Church, Garland. Work opportunities include debris removal and construction projects. Contact Marla Bearden to schedule your team. Ministry Opportunities are available in Garland, Rowlett and Glenn Heights. We will work with the local Long Term Recovery Groups as well as FBC Garland, FBC Rowlett and Church in the City, Rowlett to discovery work projects. Scheduled Dates: Summer June 20-‐25 and July 11-‐16, 2016 (Other dates are available, contact Marla Bearden to schedule your mission trip.)
Who: Adults and students age 14 and up. Cost: $150 per person (Monday – Friday) Extra cost: Transportation to and from Garland and to work sites. Group Size: up to 30 Housing: First Baptist Church, Garland, 801 W Avenue D, Garland, TX 75040, Team member need to bring bedding/blow up mattresses, for fellowship hall/classroom setting. Meal Preparation Teams: Teams need to include a couple of team members who will cook breakfast and dinner. Lunch will be sack lunches made by team members. Funds will be provided to meal preparation teams to purchase food.

Important Information to Know: If the weather is hot bring insect repellant and sunblock to use while working. Dress: long pants, T-shirts, and closed-toed shoes for the worksite. Do not wear shorts, tank tops, or sandals while working, as this will put you at risk for injury. Bring work gloves and safety glasses. Bottled water will be provided. TOOLS AND SUPPLIES: Marla Bearden or Gerald Davis will let you know what tools you need to bring. Please remember to be flexible and try to do complete the project to the best of your ability.
