COED FLAG FOOTBALL (revised Summer 2013)
The co-ed flag football league runs from mid-September through early November. The league is open to men and women and offers two levels of competition; tier 1, the more competitive division for experienced players and tier 2, the more recreational division. Games will consist of two (2) twenty minute halves. York students, alumni, staff, faculty and members of the Tait McKenzie Centre are eligible to participate. Varsity, national and professional players are not eligible to participate in this league.
Scheduling All games will be played on Tuesdays and/or Wednesdays between 4pm and 11pm. Games may occasionally be scheduled on alternate days to accommodate holidays and make-up games. The majority of games will be played either on the South Utility or Soccer Practice fields. Please check Imleagues.com for game locations. Captains will be given the opportunity to identify preferred days/times of play when registering the team on Imleagues.com. The Intramural Office will accommodate these requests where possible and make every effort to evenly distribute the less preferred playing times amongst the teams.
Cancelled and Rescheduled Games Notification of emergency cancellations will be issued through the Imleagues Message Center. Please ensure your information is up-todate. Rescheduled times will be made available as soon as possible. Teams requiring a game to be rescheduled for extenuation circumstances may do so a minimum of 72 hours prior to the game in question, with agreement in writing of both captains and the sport supervisor.
Communication It is recommended that communication between captains and sport supervisors (admin) be done using the Imleagues Message Center.
Identification Identification checks will be strictly enforced. All players must show a valid YU-card prior to each game. Alumni, staff, faculty and Tait McKenzie members must valid identification and receipt for non-student fee. Alumni cards are available through the York Alumni Office, West Office Building, 416-650-8159. There will be no exceptions to this rule.
Uniforms All team members are required to be in identical jerseys. Every player must be in uniform with a unique number, it is preferred for players to wear the same number for the duration of the season. Mandatory uniforms will be enforced starting from the first game, the Intramural Office will loan a team set of jerseys for the season for a bond of $300.
Playoffs Playoff schedules will be available on Imleagues.com, schedules will be made available at least 2 weeks prior to the end of regular season games.
Results and Standings Results and standings will be regularly updated on the Imleagues.com. Check in often to ensure your team’s results are accurate. This will help ensure a smooth transition to playoffs.
Playoff Eligibility To be eligible for playoffs, a player must have signed in one half of the regular season games. In the event that there are an uneven number of games in the regular season a player must play in 50% less 1/2 to be eligible to participate in playoffs. A record of games played will be available from the sport supervisor at all times. Player eligibility will be tracked through Imleagues.com, players must appear on the team’s roster to gain eligibility for games played.
Suspensions Suspensions are handed down to players when any form of misconduct occurs during a game. Sport Supervisors and Site Managers have the ability to hand down 1 game suspensions which are served during the next game. Any further disciplinary action will be handed down by the Intramural Coordinator in an official letter to the party(ies) involved as well as the team captain(s)

RULES AND REGULATIONS The current CFL rules and York University Intramural Program rules shall apply with the following exceptions:
1.
All flags, yardage sticks, belts and balls will be supplied by Recreation York. Personal/team flags will not be permitted.
2.
No game shall be played over the allotted time limit. Teams will default if they do not have the minimum amount of players present on the field after 10 minutes following the start time
3.
A team will play with a maximum of 8 Players (4 of each gender maximum) on the field and a minimum of 6 Players (minimum of 2 of a each gender). Fewer than six on the field will result in a default and a score of 6-0
4.
The ball must be passed to a female during 2 out of every 4 plays.
5.
One piece rubber cleats are permitted. Metal cleats are not allowed
6.
The centre may snap the ball between their legs or lateralled from the ground. The quarterback must be at least two yards back from the centre
7.
After every down, each team has 20 seconds to snap the ball
8.
There are four downs to make Ten Yards.
9.
A maximum of two players may declare as “rushers” by raising one hand during the snap. These two players may rush the quarterback from 5 yards from the line of scrimmage. All other defensive players may be at the line of scrimmage during the snap but may not rush the quarterback.
10. Shirts must be tucked in so that flags are fully visible. Flags must be worn on the outside of belts and may not be wrapped around the belt 11. Kick-offs will be from the 45 yard line 12. During a kick-off, 4 players must be on the line, ten yards from the kicker 13. Onside kicks are not allowed 14. Points: 1 Point = single, missed field goal or punt that is downed in the endzone 2 Points = safety, ran or passed conversion 3 Points = Field Goal 5 or 6 Points = Touchdown (5 for males, 6 for females) 15. The ball is scrimmaged on the five yard line for converts 16. If the ball is intercepted in the endzone, the intercepting team has the option of downing the ball or running it out. If the ball is downed, it comes out to the 20 yard line 17. A missed field goal results in one point and the ball is placed on the 20 yard line. The receiving team has the potion of running the ball out of the endzone and no points are awarded. A blocked field goal makes the ball dead. 18. Some common penalties are: Delay of Game – 5 yard penalty Illegal substitution – 5 yard penalty Offside – 5 yard penalty Illegal Procedure – 5 yard penalty Defensive Pass Interference – 10 yard penalty Blocking – 5 yards from point of infraction, loss of down Guarding the Flag – 5 yards from point of infraction, loss of down 19. A pass interference call will result in: a.
If the pass interference is called less than 10 yards from the line of scrimmage, the offensive team will gain 10 yards and first down
b.
If the pass interference is called more than 10 yards, the ball will be awarded at the point of the infraction and the offensive team will be awarded first down.
20. A three minute warning will be issued by the official in the form of three sharp blows of a whistle. At least four plays must occur after this whistle 21. There will be a coin toss to start the game. The winner of the toss has the choice to receive, kick or choose an end 22. A player with no flags may catch the ball but may not run with the ball. The play will be called dead where the catch is made 23. Any player deliberately taking an opponent’s flag off when they do not have the ball may be ejected from the game 24. A fumble results in the play being called dead 25. Players may not jump or dive to avoid being flagged. Spins are permitted 26. Any field goal attempts must be declared, and must be honoured 27. The offensive player must avoid all contact.
28. On kick-offs or punts, all defensive players may not touch the ball except for the kicker. All defensive players must stay at least 5 yards away from the ball until someone on the offensive team touches the ball. 29. If you are a rusher you must wait 1 steamboat before you can rush the quarterback. The steamboat will be called from the referee. If you rush before 1 steamboat, a 5 yard penalty will be assessed.
As with all intramural sports, both verbal or physical abuse of an opposing player or official will not tolerated and may result in the ejection from the game. An ejected player may not stay on the sidelines and must leave the field immediately. The game will resume once the ejected player has left the area.
