2013-2014 Sponsorship Opportunities

Mines Formula The Colorado School of Mines (CSM) student SAE® chapter is a group of enthusiastic future engineers, who are coming together to design and build a formula-one style racecar. The prototype constructed each year is entered into an international competition known as Formula SAE®.
Formula SAE® Defined Formula SAE® is a design competition sponsored and officiated by SAE® International (Society of Automotive Engineers). This competition challenges students to design and build a small formula style racecar that will be judged in static and dynamic events. The intent is to design a car that may go into production and will be marketed to non-professional weekend racers. Not only are handling, performance, acceleration, and braking evaluated, but also comfort, aesthetics, and the usage of widely available parts. The static events include a cost analysis, design report, and business presentation, while dynamic events include high performance track endurance and autocross trials. This competition has teams participating from all over the world; there are over 200 registered teams. The Formula SAE® competition also opens the door for other SAE® International design competitions such as the Supermileage Design Competition, Formula Electric, SAE® Baja, and Clean Snowmobile.
CSM Participation Highlights Last year was the first time in 9 years that Mines participated in the FSAE competition. CSM has several related accomplishments to be proud of: during the late 90’s and early 2000’s the students’ racecar was featured on ESPN 2 MotoWorld and in 2001 was included in the February issue of Automotive Engineering. In 2004 CSM won the FISTIA Most Improved Team award. Because sponsors like you made this award possible, the 2004 team finished sixty-five places ahead of the previous year’s team. The ingenuity and performance of the 2004 formula car surprised many of the judges and turned heads of the entire crowd. Last year the team finished 57th out of 80. The judges and other schools were very impressed with our ability to transform a box of 9 year old parts into a competition worthy car. Sponsorship The Mines Formula SAE® team’s biggest source of funds for our projects every year is our generous sponsors. Since this is our second year after a long hiatus from the competition, we have big plans for growing our team and our engineering of the car. Your sponsorship will help our team grow and become more competitive in the expanding field of registered schools with SAE®. Also, all donations are tax deductible, and non-profit donations can be made through the Colorado School of Mines Foundation. Your sponsorship will help shape the future engineers and business leaders of tomorrow with professionalism, experience, and integrity. Please read through these pages about sponsoring Mines Formula SAE®. If you are interested in sponsorship or have any questions, please contact our Sponsor Relations Manager, Jake Krapes, at [email protected].

Becoming A Sponsor Sponsoring Mines Formula SAE® will provide many benefits beyond traditional marketing. This funding helps our team realize our goals that we set every year to engineer a car that will leave the others in the dust. All levels of contribution are greatly appreciated and will be used to its maximum potential. Please use the chart below to see what returns you would like out of a Mines Formula SAE® sponsor.

Team Sponsor Team Sponsorship is the highest level of sponsorship for the Mines Formula SAE® team. To become our Team Sponsor, a contribution of at least $15,000 is required. A Team Sponsor will have the largest and most centrally located logo on the car, as well as on our team trailer and our team shirts. You will receive all the benefits of the Gold Level of sponsorship as well. The difference between Gold and Team sponsorship levels is the opportunity to see and experience the differences your contributions have made. As a Team Sponsor you will receive regular updates as to our progress on the project and opportunities to come and see the car up close and personal, and if time permitting, see the car perform at one of our local Solo Time Trial races, organized by the SCCA. Also, you will have the option to have the car we build attend your promotional events. We want to have a great relationship with all of our sponsors. A visit to any of our meetings or a special tour of our shop can provide great networking for future business. Most of our members are multi-disciplinary and expect to go into a diverse range of industries; this sponsorship can provide great recruiting opportunities and real-world networking. The Team Sponsor will be invited to send 2 representatives to travel with the team to competition. All costs will be covered by the team. We hope to build a long-lasting relationship with our team sponsor, by inviting them to competition with us. A solid relationship established now will provide years of good business relationships in the professional world. The biggest return out of this investment is the facilitation of a hands-on, real world learning experience. Even though the Colorado School of Mines has a great reputation for generating some of the industry’s top engineers, Formula SAE® gives students additional hands-on preparation and leadership development for industry. Your contributions will be put toward materials and components such as: steel, aluminum, carbon fiber, epoxy, electronic actuators, engine components, turbochargers, tires, wheels, safety equipment, and tools. Such high quality materials and components will ensure that our design experience is as competitive as possible without compromises limited by the bottom line
