Official Visits...What You Need to Know
If you are the student-host a maximum of $40 for each day of the visit may be provided to cover all actual costs of entertaining yourself and the prospect, excluding the cost of meals and admissions to campus athletics events. This money is not to be given to the prospect and may not be used to purchase souvenirs such as t-shirts, hats, or other mementos.
No cash or apparel (t-shirts, shoes, hats, etc.) may be given to the prospect or anyone accompanying the prospect.
You may not use a coach’s or other staff members’ vehicle.
If you are driving the prospect in your vehicle, you must have a valid driver’s license and insurance. Prospects are not permitted to drive your vehicle.
If you are transporting the prospect on a scooter both you and the prospect must wear a helmet.
Remember, it is against the law to provide alcoholic beverages to anyone under the age of 21. The University Athletic Association has a zero tolerance policy for all parties as it relates to drugs and alcohol.
Did you know that if you attend a tailgate party and you are not the student-host, you must pay a minimum of $8 for the tailgate food?
NCAA Rule: Former student-athletes may not be involved in any way in official or unofficial visits. This includes visits to tailgates, conversations with recruits, etc.
The University Athletic Association has implemented a 1:00 AM curfew. This means that if you are the student-host, you are responsible for making sure both you and the prospect are back at the hotel by 1:00 AM.
Did You Know? On average, all our teams combined host approximately 200 official visits each academic year!
REMEMBER TO ALWAYS ASK BEFORE YOU ACT ®
Extra Benefits Ever wonder why Compliance asks for your vehicle, scooter, and housing information? The answer is two simple words: EXTRA BENEFITS. An extra benefit is any special arrangement provided to a student-athlete (or studentathlete’s relative) that is not generally available for all students. So what does this have to do with your vehicles and housing? Well, if, for example, you are living in an apartment and because you are a Gator athlete, the apartment complex only requires you to pay $250 a month, but all other residents living in the apartment are required to pay $450 a month, you would be receiving an extra benefit. In order to monitor extra benefits at the University of Florida, Compliance requires all student-athletes to report all vehicle, scooter, and housing information. Once Compliance receives the information, it is input into a monitoring file and the information is thoroughly reviewed. For example, for housing information a current and signed copy of the lease is required to be on file in the Compliance Office. Compliance then reviews the lease agreement to verify that each student-athlete is paying the going rate for their rent. It is very important that all student-athletes are not receiving any extra benefit as this would jeopardize their eligibility and opportunity to represent the University of Florida in intercollegiate competition.
Autograph Best Practices Just a reminder that the NCAA has specific rules regarding autographs of current student -athletes. This includes autographs of current student-athletes on any items including, but not limited to, balls, jerseys, helmets, bats, and photographs. Current student-athletes may not sign autographs at commercial establishments or receive any payment, compensation, discount, or anything of value for their autographs. However, NCAA rules do permit current student-athletes to sign posters at UAA sponsored “Fan Days” because these posters are not being sold.
What is ACS? ACS is a new system that the University Athletic Association (UAA) is utilizing to make Compliance forms more convenient for our student-athletes. This year, all student-athletes completed their beginning of the year Compliance forms through ACS. All student-athletes will also be completing their CARA logs online through the ACS student-athlete portal. Finally, student-athletes in the sports of football and men’s basketball will be submitting their complimentary ticket requests through ACS.
What Do You Need to Know About ACS? Website: www.uaa.ufl.edu/student Login Information: The same as your Gatorlink When Do I Need to Login: At least once a month to review your CARA logs
Charitable Activities If you are interested in participating in a charitable activity (i.e. a mission trip), please remember that you must first notify your head coach of your intentions to participate in the activity and are also required to meet with Compliance to discuss issues, such as fundraising, involved with participating in these activities. For example, the fundraising may not be given directly to the student-athlete, but must be disbursed through or paid directly to another entity, with a receipt kept on file by the institution.
