SPECIAL FEATURE
Concrete Placement Place concrete quickly and efficiently, and with the right tools. By Mallory Szczepanski
Deciding how to place concrete on a jobsite is a function of a lot of factors: job size, distance from the supply source, height needed to lift, obstructions between delivery and placement, and the characteristics of the mix itself. Mixing, transporting, and placing concrete should be coordinated and matched with the available equipment. In some cases the mix may need to be adjusted. Whether you place with a pump, bucket, conveyor, buggy, wheelbarrow, or directly from the truck chute, here are a few products that might fulfill your concrete placement needs.
Handy Placement Tool ▶ The Uphill Grout Hog can easily dispense using only two workers. The extended auger tube and the unique swivel-base allow workers to reach 17 ft. of wall and save several feet of boom extension without having to move the forklift. The auger is removable for an easy and thorough cleaning within 15 minutes, without having to tie up a forklift. EZ Grout Corp. 800-417-9272. www.ezgrout.com RS 70
▲ Truck-Mounted Pump
Able to pump 300 cu. yds./hr., the SY5650THB72 truckmounted concrete pump features a special five-section, 236-ft. (72-m.) boom. Its six-axle chassis is only 56.6 ft., ideal for small sites. The pumping system includes a remote control that offers precise extension and operation of the boom. A larger fuel system and tank capacity provides longer running times, requiring less refueling and downtime. Sany America. 877-7269318. www.sanyamerica.com RS 71 ◀ Small Frame, Big Power
The C50SS concrete pump packs superior performance in a compact frame. It’s designed for extreme long-distance pumping such as high-rises and tunnels, as well as high-volume shotcrete applications. It combines a 220-hp, 164-kW Cummins diesel and 180cc main hydraulic pump. It sports a maximum output of 54 cu. yds./hr. at 2000-psi concrete pressure.
