Plymouth sees Confirmation as a significant milestone on life’s journey of faith. We measure the success of Confirmation if, through it, young people make the transition from coming to church because they have to, to coming because they want to.

Confirmation Requirements

From the Board of Christian Education, Plymouth UCC

The purpose of Confirmation is to aid in the discovery of self as a spiritual being, with a sense of belonging in a community of faith, that expresses itself in a covenantal commitment to join the church. We see Confirmation as a significant milestone on life’s journey of faith,

but not the culmination of Christian education nor adequate in itself to foster a lifelong commitment to Christ. Behaviorally we can measure the success of Confirmation if, through it, young people make the transition from coming to church because they have to, to coming because they want to.

Confirmation Requirements

From the Board of Christian Education, Plymouth UCC 1. Attendance at all scheduled theme events, fellowship nights and service projects. Three absences are permitted during the year. Please tell your small-group leader if you know in advance that you will have to miss any event. 2. Weekly attendance at worship. All students must attend one of Plymouth’s worship services each week and sign the friendship pads: Saturday at 5:30 p.m., Sunday at 9 or 11 a.m. 3. Monthly Family Night events. Each month students need to participate in a family event that includes discussion about what is happening in confirmation, what is going on in family members’ lives, etc. This could happen at the supper table, in the car on the way to an athletic event, or after a movie, for example. 4. Confirmation Retreat. An overnight retreat will be required for all 8th grade students who plan to be confirmed. The importance of this time apart for the students to make their decisions about their Confirmation cannot be overstated. Students who miss any part of this retreat may join the church in

other ways, but they will not be confirmed. The cost for retreat is approximately $90. 5. Confirmation Rehearsal. A mandatory, brief rehearsal is essential for students to learn the choreography for the confirmation ceremony. 6. Baptisms. Students must be baptized before they are confirmed. 7. Confirmation Day. All students who choose to be confirmed are to be in the Confirmation Service at 9 a.m. on Sunday, May 7, 2017. Everyone will meet at 8:30 a.m. that morning to organize for the procession.

Confirmation Retreat Confirmation retreat is a lifechanging event when the 8th grade confirmation students and their adult guides get away from everyday life, spend time building relationships with one another and with God, and make their decision about becoming a confirmed member of Plymouth Congregational United Church of Christ.

a required activity for anyone wanting to be confirmed. If students do not attend retreat, they may join the church in other ways but may not join with the Confirmation class on Confirmation Sunday. This year’s retreat will be held at YMCA Camp in Boone, Iowa and is scheduled for April 28–30, 2017.

Plymouth Confirmation Care Team

Family Covenant We have been called by God to be a family. We have covenanted together to strengthen and support the precious gift of our family by taking time from our busy schedules at least once each month to: • continue in the promises of baptism • share our highs and lows • discuss confirmation themes and activities

Though not required, we know that these activities will greatly strengthen our covenant. May God richly bless this covenant and this family, that our home may be known as a place of love and peace.
