2 Corinthians Sermon Series Supports Session 10: Displaying the Gospel Sermon Title: Growing in God’s Glory Passage: 2 Corinthians 3:7-4:17
Connection to the passage Believers have confidence in Christ because they have experienced the transforming effect of the gospel in their lives. We believe Jesus rose from the dead and that one day we will experience the same resurrection power. For this reason, we do not lose heart in this world because of the hope of the gospel for now and eternity. Introduction/Opening A potter takes a lump of clay and molds it into a bowl or other utensil. The potter works the clay so that the once useless clay can become useful. The amazing thing about the Christian life is how God works in us in order to work through us. Through the gospel, God does a glorious work in us by His Spirit. Because we are indwelt by the Holy Spirit, we begin to grow in God’s glory and anticipate the eternal glory of being with Him. Outline 1. We have the hope of glory (2 Cor. 3:7-12) a) The glory of the new covenant is greater than the glory of the old covenant. b) We can boldly come before God because of Christ’s work on our behalf. 2. We are transformed from glory to glory (2 Cor. 3:18) a) We reflect the Lord’s glory as we let our light shine. b) We continue to grow and be transformed in the increasing glory of Christlikeness. 3. We are renewed daily to produce an eternal glory (2 Cor. 4:13-17) a) We do not lose heart because of momentary troubles. b) We are being renewed in our walk with the Lord each day. c) We fix our eyes on the hope we have in Christ that is producing an eternal glory. Conclusion The good news of Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection brings the glory of God near. When we receive Christ into our lives, the Holy Spirit works to transform us in a way that the Law could not. We begin to grow in God’s glory as we yield our lives to Him daily.
