Crime this needs writing. Perhaps record label typecasting has kept Country Teasers locked up in a red garage with a plump nocturnal critter for too long. Regardless, this group remains intangible to the cubicle chic and fashionoriented masses of the world. Do you remember how Butthole Surfers or The Shadow Ring dressed? All and all, the group delivers another masterful side of rubber-band tonality chugging along like a broke-down carousel. Their brand of Anglo stagger-waltz dodges all epithets regarded as genres. Country Teasers’ sound is defined by a pace set to a metronome submerged in a mysterious bottle of fluid with no label. An outfit that has never played anything such as “lo-fi,” “garage rock,” “anthem pop,” or “steam punk” presents their tribute to tape-as-compositional-device from “I Am Sitting in a Room” and “Faust Tapes” through Nixon’s Gap and out into the dark side of the Ampex. Their consistency is only matched by their honesty, and they’re honestly telling you there is “no future.” Repeatedly! Anthony Ezee Tiger is this one-man band dude from Michigan. He also plays in Paik, but his Butthole Surfers-esque solo shows convinced more than one guy that he’s a for-real fucking powerhouse. On his side of this split, he takes one-man plod and somehow turns on the Health and Efficiency vibe without encouraging a bunch of vegans or non-smokers to give their opinions. And then it all of a sudden bangs down into a little pop song. Who wants ice cream? “... a pandemonium of murky feedback, speaker-thrashing guitar and bass riffs, and slurred vocals. Ezee’s blossoming walls of sound consume each other whole, belching out the byproducts through trash-bin electronics.
