10 Bonus Tips: 1. Use a glue gun if you are collaging anything to fabric. 2. Use a permanent marker/liner if you don’t have stamps. You can see from the image of the finished card; a marker or liner would have worked just fine. The only thing to keep in mind is the permanence. Some ink will dissolve if you apply a layer of varnish or medium on top of it. Test before you do this. 3. Don’t have any shells, use the following as alternatives: • buttons • bits of cardboard • old jewelry • dried paint bits from your palette 4. If your playing card is thin, after you initially gesso the card, collage a few sheets of translucent paper or napkin paper to the front and back. Do this one layer at a time and let dry in between layers. Sometimes, a little goes a long way. 5. Change up the theme and colours for holidays, here are some ideas: • red paint or green paint for Christmas • gold star instead of a heart for New Years • bunny instead of a heart shape for Easter • cut out of a woman or man instead of a heart shaper for Mothers or Fathers day. 6. Don’t have crackle paste, collage napkin or tissue to your cut out and before it dries, move the paper a bit to encourage wrinkling. 7. Don’t have stencils, use whatever you have in your art toolbox or use one of the following as alternatives to dip in paint and stamp on your card: • end of a paintbrush • rubber tip on a pencil • cotton swap • your pinky finger • the core from a doggy bag roll (these make amazing stamps) 8. Create an instant greeting card: • Measure folded card stock so it’s at least ½” larger than the altered playing card. • Cut out card stock in a contrasting colour so it’s ¼” larger than the playing card. • Tape or glue the altered playing card to the contrasting colour • Tape or glue the card/contrasting paper to the font of the folded cardstock 9. Create an instant post card or bookmark • Cut out card stock in a contrasting colour or use an existing background page. For ideas, refer to the Book of Background series. • Decorate one side with writing. • Tape or glue the altered playing card to the other side of the cardstock. 10.
