New development to add 1,200 homes in Leander A new master-planned community will bring 1,200 homes to the city of Leander within the next decade. Crescent Communities, a North Carolina-based real estate company, plans to begin construction on the first model homes in the 500-acre Bryson community this spring, with residents expected to begin moving in by fall. Bryson, off the 183A toll road north of San Gabriel Parkway, will have 105 homes in its first phase, said Tommy Tucker, Crescent Communities’ residential vice president for Central Texas. Four builders have been selected: David Weekley Homes, Drees Custom Homes, Grand Haven Homes and Scott Felder Homes. The new Bryson development is located off the 183A toll road in Leander. Prices will range from the high $200,000s to the low $400,000s, Crescent Communities said. “We’ve been working feverishly to get to this point,” Tucker said. “The Northwest Austin submarket has been one of the top submarkets for the past 10 to 15 years and we wanted to be a part of that. We saw a need for more housing here.” In addition to the 1,200 homes, Crescent Communities said it’s also planning between 250 and 500 higherdensity, multifamily homes. Leander has experienced explosive growth in recent years, and city officials say they don’t expect that to slow down any time soon. City figures show the current population is estimated to be 31,771, up from 7,596 in 2000. By 2019, the city expects its population will rise to 36,659, a five-year increase of 15.4 percent. Leander Mayor Chris Fielder said projects such as Bryson will help accommodate newcomers. “We’re prepared to handle the influx of residents who are looking for that famed Texas Hill Country living while experiencing all that Leander has to offer,” Fielder said in a written statement. “Our team has enjoyed working with Crescent on its Bryson development and we look forward to welcoming the families of Bryson into our Leander community soon.” Bryson will feature a network of parks and hike-and-bike trails, Tucker said, as well as an amenity center with a pool and pavilion. The amenity center is expected to open in early 2016. Crescent Communities said it is also in talks with the Leander school district about possibly locating an elementary school in Bryson, but nothing has been finalized. In addition to Bryson, other Central Texas developments Crescent Communities has been involved with include Rough Hollow in Lakeway and Belterra, located near Dripping Springs.
