In 2006 82.1% were economically active in Cumbria compared to 76.6% in the North West. (Annual Population Survey Apr 06 – Mar 07, NOMIS) In Cumbria the population that were of working age (16 to pension age) was 72.9% compared to 77.0% in the North West. Housing In February 2008 the average overall house price for Cumbria was £144,995, up 6.5% on the previous year and for the North West it was £138,052 which was an increase of 4.2% on the previous year. Cumbria has 95 wards of the 308 North West wards that are eligible for Objective 2 European Union (ERDF) funding. In addition the county has 27 of the 194 regional wards eligible for Transitional Objective 2 ERDF. This designation relates to the 2000-2006 Structural Funds Programmes where expenditure will be complete by end December 2008. From 1 January 2007, the designations changed and the entire geographical area of the North West will be eligible under the new Regional Competitiveness and Employment Objective between 1 January 2007 and 31 December 2013. Only Merseyside will have transitional status with an allocation of transitional funding. There will be separate ERDF and ESF programmes in the region.
