The student’s cumulative average was computed on the basis of each semester grade from the years 2013-2014. In 2015 the Academy moved to computing a student’s cumulative GPA at the end of the academic year. AP courses are weighted by a 1.1 multiplier.

COLLEGE PREPAREDNESS Gilmour focuses on developing skills in our students that correlate with their success at the college level and beyond. By participating in the College and Work Readiness Assessment (CWRA+), which is used by over 250 colleges and secondary schools nation-wide, we are able to measure how well our students apply real-world, critical thinking skills. Specifically, the CWRA+ measures analysis and problem solving, writing effectiveness, writing mechanics, scientific and quantitative reasoning, critical reading and evaluation, and critiquing and argument. Gilmour assesses grade nine students in the fall, and grade twelve students in the spring. We gauge our students’ progress and customize curriculum so that our graduates emerge armed with enduring competencies. Historically, Gilmour seniors have performed well on the CWRA+. The scoring data available help us compare Gilmour senior performance with performance of Gilmour freshmen and that of other high school students and college freshmen who take the CWRA+. In particular, Gilmour freshmen scores tend to be consistent with those of other high school freshmen, while Gilmour senior scores have consistently been higher than those of other high school seniors.

ACADEMIC EXTENSION PROGRAMS INTERNSHIP PROGRAMS Students can explore their passions in various fields through Gilmour’s experiential learning opportunities – Catalyst, Venture and Leadership and Civic Learning. These are rigorous, semester-long courses during which field mentors provide authentic learning opportunities. Subsequently, Gilmour instructors help students reflect, analyze and communicate about their experiences through extensive journaling and an oral presentation that serves as a capstone to the experience. The unique structure enhances connections between class work and the real world. • Catalyst – Students work as apprentices to research scientists at local institutions such as CWRU, the Cleveland Clinic, NASA and Rockwell Automation. • Venture – Students analyze local start-ups while working on special projects designed by their entrepreneurial mentors. • Leadership and Civic Learning – Students work alongside leaders in the legal field, economic development organizations, local government and non-profit agencies as they develop an increased sense of civic responsibility. VECTOR PROGRAM Students can join the Vector program as freshmen or sophomores. The program continues through graduation and allows highly motivated students to select a specific area of focus. Together with a faculty mentor, the student is able to map out targeted coursework, experiential opportunities outside the classroom and, ultimately, a capstone project that is completed with the guidance of an outside mentor. Graduates of the Vector program emerge with a highly focused portfolio of work and a well-developed professional network. The five Vector focus areas students may choose from are: • Science & Medicine • Engineering & Design • Creativity & Personal Expression • Entrepreneurship & Commerce • Civic Engagement CUM LAUDE SOCIETY Gilmour Academy has been a member school of the Cum Laude Society since 1995. This honor society recognizes superior scholastic achievement in the nation’s exemplary secondary schools.
