PERSONAL BIOGRAPHY I’ve lived here in Winchester for over 30 years. My husband Mark and I have two grown up children, Stephen and Lizi. Living in our community I get to experience the problems residents face first hand and always try to tackle the issues that local people care about most. Since 1991 I have been a councillor, representing and working for local people. I find it incredibly rewarding to be given the chance to help people each day. I want to be your MP so that I can find the solutions to the big problems affecting people in Winchester, Chandler’s Ford, Alresford, Kings Worthy, Colden Common and all our communities.

CAMPAIGN RECORD Save our maternity services When it became clear that our maternity services at Winchester were under threat and could be downgraded, I made it my top priority to fight for them to be saved. And it’s not something I’m going to back down or u-turn on. I was shocked when our current Tory MP broke his promise to make consultant-led maternity services his ‘red line’ on our NHS. Faster broadband Slow or non-existent broadband holds back our local businesses and makes it harder for people to go about their daily lives. I have been a thorn in the side of the Conservative County Council, driving them to deliver this vital service. The campaign is starting to bear fruit as more people get access. But there’s still work to do! Affordable homes for local people Winchester is a lovely place to live but many people struggle to find homes they can afford. We must make developers provide the affordable homes they should. The decision by Winchester’s Conservative City Council to allow the developer to remove all affordable housing from Silver Hill was disgraceful. Hopefully the judicial review ruling will allow the council to reconsider and find a way to get a scheme that serves the needs of local people. Short breaks for disabled children Short breaks give disabled children the opportunity to take part in activities that other children can; clubs, playschemes, swimming, Scouts and Guides. The Conservatives wanted to cut the budget for these services by two thirds. I gave the families affected the chance to tell their stories and thankfully the Conservatives saw sense and reversed their decision.

HOBBIES "I like to spend what spare time I have gardening with my husband Mark. We especially enjoy sharing our garden with others. “I also enjoy trips to the theatre and walks to our local pub through the beautiful Hampshire countryside.”

School places As Lib Dem Education Spokesperson for Hampshire I have called the County Council to account for its failure to provide places over the years. It’s simply not good enough. Recently I have been able to make a difference for some schools, parents and children; bringing together governors and the council to find practical solutions. Working hard for everyone I work with local councillors to help improve our area in the small but important ways that make such a difference - getting repairs to pavements, potholes and streetlights, ensuring overgrown trees are trimmed and dealing with traffic problems. My first ever campaign was to get better play equipment in Kings Worthy back in 1991, one that’s being repeated right now in Chandler’s Ford! I enjoy meeting and listening to local people and getting results for our local area. My fight is not against other parties, it is for you.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE 2004 - PRESENT Street Reach is a youth project that gets out and interacts with young people wherever they feel most comfortable. The staff are wonderful and I’m passionate about the work we do helping young people. The charity was able to step in when the County Council cut funding for youth projects, continuing to give young people the support they need.

MARK OATEN Former Winchester MP "Jackie has exactly what it takes to be a great MP; real-world experience and a passion for making peoples’ lives better. “I will be voting for Jackie on May 7th because over the many years I’ve known her she has always fought for the things that matter to people here in Winchester.”

2012 - PRESENT Chairing the pre-school has given me the chance to see close up one of the Lib Dems’ biggest achievements in government; introducing 15 hours free childcare for all 3-4 year olds, and the poorest 40% of 2 year olds. A real help for families! 1992 - 1997 After my time in business I retrained to work as a teacher in local schools. I found working with children incredibly rewarding. It also gave me a real insight into what needs to be done to give all children the best possible start in life, regardless of their background.

Alresford

1976 - 1985 After University I spent 9 years in business as a buyer for Marks and Spencer. I think we need more MPs with business and science backgrounds, they are skills really lacking in our current Parliament. 1973 - 1976 Studying for a science and engineering degree in the 1970s was definitely a man’s world! But I enjoyed my time and left with a first class honours degree. During the summer I worked in a Courtaulds factory so I had enough money for term time.

JOHN “Jackie’s business experience and outstanding campaigning record make her the ideal person to be our next local MP for Winchester and Chandler’s Ford. “Only Jackie can beat the Conservative here in May. We need her in Parliament fighting for us.”
