NOTE FROM THE DISTRICT DIRECTOR Sharon K. McPherson, CAP-OM
[email protected] Happy Holidays! Wishing you and your family the very best for the holiday season and a year of health, happiness and prosperity. Be sure to take time during this busy season to relax and enjoy some time with family and friends. Kudos to many of you who are providing service to your community during this holiday season. In reading division and chapter newsletters, I have noticed that there are several initiatives from working at soup kitchens and food pantries to collecting Toys for Tots. Your efforts are truly commendable. In addition, I am sure that many of you participate individually. In our community members of the US Marine Corps partner with local law enforcement and a radio station to “stuff a bus.” This tradition started a few years ago as an initiative to stuff a school bus with toys for children in need and has grown to 16 school buses being filled last year during the first weekend in December. This coming weekend they have set a goal to fill 20. It has really turned into quite an event where local fire and police personnel come in their vehicles with sirens blaring to deliver items collected and then allow curious little ones to sit in them and check them out. Our family has always supported Toys for Tots and we now look forward each year to gathering all three generations to bring our donations during this weekend. As we approach the end of the calendar year, it is a good time to review goals, plans for the coming year and achievements. As you sit with your supervisor to review accomplishments and establish goals, be sure to incorporate your IAAP training and activities. By integrating IAAP activities into your review, you not only satisfy a criterion toward Member of Excellence status but also make your employer aware of your commitment to continually improve and excel in your chosen career. IAAP is looking for qualified, engaging, experienced and interactive speakers to submit to present during EFAM 2014. The submission form can be found here. The course descriptions (subject to change) can be found here. The deadline to submit is Dec. 6 at 5:00pm CST. If you have experience speaking or know your colleagues, CEO or managers on your team have insightful information and takeaways to share with your colleagues, submit to speak at EFAM 2014 today.
Members: Have you signed the commitment form and reviewed the 2013-2014 Member of Excellence criteria? If not, you should do so as soon as possible. I am sure if you review the criteria, you will find that this is certainly an attainable goal. Chapters and Divisions are already on their way with the timely submissions of criteria. Our district goal for 2013-14 is 400 Members of Excellence and 50 Chapters of Excellence. Help us reach this goal! December 2013 Page 1 of 2
