Dan & Mary Lu Coventon MISSIONARIES IN HONDURAS FARTHEST HORIZONS—FROM HERE TO THE END OF THE EARTH

Dear Friends,

December 28, 2017

Praise God and greetings from Honduras! General elections were held in Honduras on November 26. The race was close and there were accusations of voter fraud with both major candidates claiming victory. There were protests in the streets, which began to turn violent by November 29. As things got worse, street gangs and other delinquents got involved, barricading streets, looting stores and businesses, and damaging public buildings, street lights and traffic signs. Countrywide, over 25 people died as a result of the violence, including three police officers. Many businesses closed and schools suspended classes. We sent out an email to most of you on December 1 with some information and a request for prayer. Things got worse before they got better. It was a time to be prudent, not fearful, but trusting in the Lord. The week before Christmas things began to cool down and return to normal, though there is still some tension. We thank you for your prayers and ask that you please continue to intercede for us and for Honduras. October 12–14, well before the elections, I was in a town near Siguatepeque in central Honduras. There we held a “Commissioned” course with 12 participants.

Many places put up sheet metal to help protect against looting, including the largest mall in town. In our last letter, I mentioned a Kairos course in early November. That was moved to early December because the host church cancelled just a week before the course. Then, with all the violence after the elections, we have posponed the course in Tegucigalpa until 2018.

I fly to Quito, Ecuador on January 21 to supervise a Kairos course. One of the regional coordinators asked me to help with this course, observing an apprentice Head Facilitator as he leads the course. I’ll have a checklist for each session that in the end will determine if he is ready to be an approved Head Facilitator.

An exposition on the five blocks of unreached people groups during November in the pastor’s association. We have proceeded with plans for the Kairos course in San Pedro Sula which will run January 3–7. As order has been restored in the country, we are confident that we will be able to do this course as planned. I will be supervising Daniel Boniche in his second course as apprentice Head Facilitator. Most of the facilitators and the participants are from our

From Quito I fly to Mexico to attend the Simply Mobilizing Latin American Consultation January 28–February 3. The first two days we will be trained in a new course called “The Unfinished Story”, a four session course designed to be used in local churches. I will be gone for two weeks total. Please remember to pray for these trips and for Mary Lu, who will be home alone for that time. This year we travel to the USA on February 15. We hope to see many of you during our weeks there. We start in Houston, Texas and will get as far north as Iowa. As the year draws to a close we thank God for His many blessings. We thrust that you may also rejoice as you remember all the marvelous things that the Lord has done in your life. We thank all of you for your prayers and support this year and look forward to 2018. Remember, you share in the fruit.
