Central Texts: The Boy Who Loved Words by Roni Schotter The Incredible Book Eating Boy by Oliver Jeffers Learning Targets: • To identify the main message. • To describe what the main character wanted and what he did. • To sort key details into categories. • To discuss how the main message conveyed through key details. Math: Unit 4 Subtraction with regrouping the ones, tens, hundreds and thousands. Unit 5 Addition and subtraction word problems. The Holidays are upon us! Please continue to monitor your child’s homework folder. The children receive homework everyday. They are also responsible for filling out their reading log on a daily basis. Please sign their reading logs at the end of the week so your child can earn an extra raffle ticket. So far, the following students have read over 100 books: Darius, Johnathon, Samani, Violet, Yerlina, Jocelyn, Jabarri, Ryan and Ireli. Keep on reading!
December The lakes of ice gleam bluer than the lakes Of water 'neath the summer sunshine gleamed: Far fairer than when placidly it streamed, The brook its frozen architecture makes, And under bridges white its swift way takes. Snow comes and goes as messenger who dreamed Might linger on the road; or one who deemed His message hostile gently for their sakes Who listened might reveal it by degrees. We gird against the cold of winter wind Our loins now with mighty bands of sleep, In longest, darkest nights take rest and ease, And every shortening day, as shadows creep O'er the brief noontide, fresh surprises find.
