Dennis Higginbotham Dr. Dennis Higginbotham graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in 1960. In his youth, Higginbotham would have never imagined that he would be inducted into the Hall of Fame. Almost rejecting his nomination, he made it very clear during our interview that he was no John Clizbe or William Johnson, two previous Hall of Fame inductees from his class. Higginbotham created a great life for himself and a great legacy to be remembered by all who will pass by the Hall of Fame placard. He never thought that he would be a dentist, where he ultimately made his mark professionally. Throughout his time in high school, he grew a deep appreciation for his community and his countless relationships. Above all, however, he admired his older brother, and when the time came to make a college decision, he followed in his brother’s footsteps and pursued dentistry at Creighton University. After graduating from Creighton’s School of Dentistry, he briefly went into private practice with his family before being assigned to Georgia for the U.S. Army, where he served as an oral surgeon. Since leaving the Army, Higginbotham has worked as a dentist in the town he loves, Council Bluffs. Perhaps his most prideful accomplishment was his induction into the education staff at the Creighton School of Dentistry. He truly cherishes his ability to mold the future of his treasured career. Higginbotham has volunteered many hours in the community. He has been on the Mayor’s Advisory Board for the Council Bluffs Police Department; cochaired a project to raise funds for the purchase of band uniforms for the two Council Bluffs Community School District high schools; served on the school district curriculum committee; volunteered for the Iowa Mission of Mercy, Give Kids a Smile and Special Olympics; and is Red Cross donor. Higginbotham is a dynamically passionate man. He cares deeply about his family, his community and his profession.
