SUPPLIES
Small crochet hook for turning fabric 12½" x 11¼" piece of peach fabric for body and gravel bag 15" x 12¾" piece of black fabric for legs and arms ¼ yd – 44/45"w red fabric for pants, jacket, and hat 3¼" x 20½" piece of white artificial lamb’s wool for pants, jacket and hat trim
11" ‑ ⅝"w black grosgrain ribbon for belt ⅞"w belt buckle 2 ‑ ¼" black buttons for eyes Brown and pink colored pencils 12" ‑ #24 gauge gold wire for glasses White wool roving for beard and moustache Hot glue gun and glue sticks White 15mm pom‑pom for hat
INSTRUCTIONS
(Note: For all machine stitching, use a ¼" seam allowance. Backstitch at beginning and ending of each stitching line. Trim seam allowances to ⅛"; clip curves and corners. Use small crochet hook to turn fabric completely. When stuffing body, legs, and arms, pull off small amounts of fiberfill and pull fibers apart; stuff curves and corners first before stuffing remainder of area.)
8. Matching right sides and raw edges, pin and stitch remaining long edges together. Turn pant leg right side out; press.
1. Trace patterns A‑H, (pgs. 4-6) onto tracing paper; cut out traced patterns.
10. Repeat Steps 7-9 for remaining pant leg.
2. Pin traced patterns to fabric; cut out fabric pieces. Transfer markings on patterns to wrong side of fabric pieces. 3. Matching right sides and raw edges, pin and stitch body pieces together, leaving an opening between dots. Turn body right side out. 4. Matching right sides and raw edges, pin and stitch two leg pieces together, leaving top edge open. Turn leg right side out. Place one teaspoon of parakeet gravel in leg. Firmly stuff leg up to 2¾" from top edge with fiberfill.
9. Matching raw edges, insert one leg into one pant leg with side seams of pant leg at sides of leg. Stitching through all layers, pin and baste pant leg to leg along top edge (Fig 2).
11. With toes facing right side of one body piece and matching raw edges, pin and stitch legs to body piece (Fig. 3), sewing through pant legs. (Note: Body piece with legs attached will be body front. Do not catch body back in stitching.)

5. Match seams of leg and stitch through leg just above fiberfill (Fig. 1).
6. Repeat Steps 4‑5 for remaining leg. 7. Matching right sides and raw edges, pin and stitch two pant leg pieces together along one long edge. Press seam allowances open. Turn bottom edge ¼" to wrong side. Topstitch ⅛" from fold. LeisureArtsLibrary.com • #800670

14. Matching raw edges, pin and stitch gravel bag pieces together, leaving straight edge open. Turn bag right side out. Press top edge ¼" to wrong side.

15. Fill gravel bag with parakeet gravel. Whipstitch opening closed. Insert bag in body with straight edge of bag toward head. Add fiberfill to body if necessary to fill in curves. Whipstitch opening closed. 16. Matching right sides and raw edges, pin and stitch two arm pieces together, leaving top edge open. Turn arm right side out. Press top edge ¼" to wrong side. 17. Firmly stuff arm up to 1¾" from top edge with fiberfill. With seams at sides, stitch through arm just above fiberfill (Fig. 4). 18. Lightly stuff remainder of arm with fiberfill. With thumb pointing up, whipstitch arm to side of body (Fig. 5). Fig. 5
22. To hem each sleeve, press bottom edge ¼" to wrong side. Topstitch ⅛" from fold. 23. Matching right sides and raw edges, pin and stitch jacket front to jacket back at each side and underarm seam (Fig. 8). Press seam allowances open. Fig. 8

19. Repeat Steps 16-18 for remaining arm.
20. Matching right sides and raw edges, pin and stitch one jacket front piece to jacket back, stitching from edge of sleeve to dot (Fig. 6). Press seam allowances open. Repeat for remaining jacket front piece. Fig. 6
21. Press neck edge of jacket ¼" to wrong side. Topstitch ⅛" from fold as shown in Fig. 7.

24. To hem jacket, press bottom edge ¼" to wrong side. Topstitch ⅛" from fold. 25. To finish each front edge of jacket, press edge ¼" to wrong side. Topstitch ⅛" from fold. 26. Matching right sides and raw edges, pin and stitch hat pieces together, leaving bottom edge open. Turn hat right side out. Lightly stuff hat with fiberfill. 27. Cut out the following from artificial lamb’s wool: hat trim ‑ one ½" x 7¼" piece sleeve trim ‑ two ½" x 6¼" pieces remainder of jacket trim ‑ one ½" x 20" piece pant trim ‑ two ½" x 7½" pieces 28. Refer to photo to glue trim to hat, sleeves, and pants, overlapping short ends. For remainder of jacket trim, begin at one neck edge of jacket and glue trim to front and bottom edges of jacket, ending trim at remaining neck edge of jacket. 29. Put jacket on Santa. Overlap jacket front and tack in place. 30. For belt, thread one end of ribbon through buckle. Fold end over middle post of buckle; glue ribbon end in place. Put belt on Santa over jacket. Thread remaining end of ribbon through buckle. Glue ribbon end in place.

31. For beard, tear off a few lengths of wool roving twice the desired length of beard. Fold lengths in half. Place roving across Santa’s face. Glue top of beard in place. 32. For moustache, tear off desired length of wool roving. Tie lengths together in the middle by wrapping tightly with thread. Glue center of moustache to Santa’s face above beard. 33. For glasses, bend wire as shown in Fig. 9, making each rim approximately ¾" in diameter. Put glasses on Santa. Bend ends around head. Glue or tack ends of glasses in place.

34. Refer to photo to sew buttons to face for eyes. Use brown colored pencil to draw nose. Use pink colored pencil to blush cheeks. 35. Refer to photo to position hat on Santa. Tack hat to Santa’s head; turn down top of hat and tack in place. Glue pom‑pom to end of hat.
