D haulagiri II A ttem pt. A four-m an Japanese expedition led by Shuichi Torii had hoped to clim b the east ridge o f D haulagiri II. They established three high cam ps. Frequent snow fall, strong w inds and an exhausted food supply defeated them and they gave up on O ctober 21. That day T orii, Chiaki Inam i, K im io N arusaki and sirdar Ang Kami Sherpa reached their high point, 7200 m eters on the east ridge after having traversed ju st beneath the sum m it o f the “Snow Peak” to the east o f D haulagiri II.
