Although the name of our preschool has changed over the years, our program’s ability to discover and carefully nurture the strengths in all students is a constant. La Crescent-Hokah Early Childhood Discovery Preschool takes its name and purpose very seriously. We work every day to ensure a wellrounded and developmentally appropriate preKindergarten experience that lays the foundation for a successful K-12 experience and beyond.

THE ADVANTAGES OF DISCOVERY Highly-trained and experienced staff ensure the delivery of a stateaccredited and researchbased curriculum that is carefully aligned with K-12 and Common Core standards but more importantly puts the needs and interests of each individual child at the center of every decision we make. Discovery programming addresses all areas of your child’s development; social emotional, large and small motor, language, and cognitive. Discovery Preschool takes great pride in being able to offer preschool that truly prepares the whole student for Kindergarten. One of the greatest assets of Discovery Preschool is its location in La Crescent-Hokah Elementary. Attending preschool in the elementary building allows your student and her teachers access to the entire facility including onsite surround care (see additional panel), food service that includes options for breakfast and lunch, two gymnasiums, a full playground, the entire elementary library, as well as technology resources. In addition, staff and students are privileged to benefit from having the expertise of a licensed school nurse, educational psychologist, and specialist educators on site. Perhaps the greatest benefit of attending preschool in the elementary building is the obvious advantage students gain through becoming familiar with the building and staff that will be central to their K-4 experience.

Of students who attended Discovery Preschool in 2013/14: 93% met fall reading benchmarks on MAP assessments in Kindergarten 90% met fall math benchmarks on MAP assessments in Kindergarten.
From the mouths of babes ( c u r r e n t s t u d e n t s s ay ) . . .
At the start of the Kindergarten Round-Up school tour, “Mom and Dad, don’t worry. I know this place already. This is my school!” In response to a parent asking about her day at preschool, “It was a great day! I got to see my big sister twice today! I saw her when we were going to the gym and again on our way to library!” “I really like it when the teachers play with me. It helps me learn new things.”
DISCOVERY COMPANY CURRICULUM-BASED SURROUND CARE During the hours between 8am and 3pm when your child is not attending their section of Discovery Preschool, Discovery Company provides professional, quality child care that strives to meet each child's physical, emotional, social, and developmental needs. This structured childcare program utilizes the Creative Curriculum to extend preschool learning throughout the day. Full-time Discovery Company Enrollment is available five days per week for Discovery Preschool 3K and 4K Plus students (M-F care while not attending their respective preschool class). Rates vary depending on preschool class section. Part-time Discovery Company Enrollment is available for children on their respective Discovery Preschool 3K, 4K, and 4K Plus class days per week. Please see the insert for rate information. Children enrolled at Discovery Company also have the opportunity to attend Kids’ Company before and after school hours!
