Tuckahoe Union Free School District
District Strategic Plan
Assessment and Trend Data 2014-15 Tuckahoe Union Free School District
Introduction • The 2014-15 Grades 3-8 ELA and Math Assessments attempted to measure school districts’ progress towards NYSED’s CCLS (Common Core Learning Standards). • The Tuckahoe Schools have worked hard to align with the CCLS by implementing new curricula. • NYSED has been criticized by parents and educators alike for its implementation of the new high stakes testing program.
Introduction • Many parents across the State refused to allow their children participate in the 3-8 assessments. • Responding to the significant concerns, NYSED has made the following changes moving forward. – Greater involvement of educators in the test
development process, – Decrease in the number of test questions, and – A shift to untimed testing. • Finding similar schools remains a challenge.
Introduction • Because NYSED no longer identifies similar schools, we referred to past NYSED data to select the schools used in our comparative analyses. In most cases, demographics have remained fairly consistent. • It is important to understand that most of the comparison schools have a lower percentage of socioeconomically disadvantaged students as compared with Tuckahoe.
*Only individual schools in each district that were identified five years ago by NYS as similar to schools in Tuckahoe are represented here (not the entire district population).
In small schools, such as Tuckahoe, percentage comparisons may not tell the whole story, or could be misleading….
