Invitational Meets (Trinity, Ponderosa, etc.)

This brochure provides information about the Rattlesnakes Swim Team of Montgomery County (RSMC), a 501(c)(3) organization. If you are new to our area, welcome. We want you to be a part of our Rattlesnake swim team and most important of all, we want you to have fun! We look forward to you joining our swim team.

If you are not familiar with activities in running a swim meet, Rattlesnake parents help with the following duties at meets.

Purpose: RSMC is organized and shall be operated exclusively for the charitable and educational purposes with the meaning of section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 (the “Code”) or corresponding provision hereafter in effect. RSMC shall accomplish it’s purpose by conducting the operation of a summer swim team program in the north Montgomery County area for novice athletes (children) which (1) provides instruction and training in order to develop and improve their individual capabilities in the sport of swimming, (2) hosts swim meets in which swimmers participate to gain a sense of accomplishment, (3) promotes and develops good sportsmanship, and (4) advances the sport of organized swimming through qualified educational and competitive events. RSMC shall be operated exclusively for such purposes, and no part of its net earnings shall inure to the benefit of any private individual, no substantial part of its activities shall be carrying on propaganda, or otherwise attempting to influence legislation, and it shall not participate in or intervene in any political campaign on behalf of or in opposition to any candidate for public office. RSMC shall organize, finance and publicize the activities of the RSMC. Upon dissolution, all assets will be given to another 501(c)(3) organization as voted upon by RSMC BOD.

Officials

Eligibility Swim team membership is open to anyone in the Montgomery County area (Conroe, Willis, Montgomery, etc.). All youth swimmers up to the age of 18 years are eligible. Swimmers are expected to be water adjusted and be able to get to the opposite end of the pool (a length of 25 yards) unassisted. The Coach is NOT hired to provide swim lessons for beginners, but to provide competitive skill instruction according to age group. Registration for each upcoming season is held in the spring. If you live in a subdivision that does not have a Northwest Aquatic League Swim Team, you are eligible to swim with us without penalties.

Eligibility for an age group is determined by an individual age as of

MAY 31, 2014

Starters, Referees, and Stroke and turn officials make sure the meet follows NWAL guidelines. PLEASE VOLUNTEER! Without our own referees, THE OTHER TEAM GETS TO BE IN CHARGE OF THE MEET!!!!! Timers

Clock swimmers and record time. This is the best seat in the house for viewing the competitive swimmers and events.

Runners

Pick up sheets from the timers and deliver to the scoring table.

Computer Team

Assist Clerk of Course in entering swimmer’s times into the computer on meet day and scoring of the meet. WE NEED SEVERAL VOLUNTEERS TO ASSIST WITH THIS DURING OUR HOME AND AWAY MEETS!

Ribbon Writers

Sort and place labels on winner’s ribbons.

Concessions

Sell concessions that help raise money for events throughout the Rattlesnake swim season.

Ready Bench

Place the swimmers in order by heat before each event. If you volunteer and work both home meets and assist at away meets you can earn a refund for one swimmer.

Team Mom/Dads

Help the younger swimmers to the ready bench area.

Meet set-up/take down

Set up and take down the Rattlesnake team and Spectators tarps before and after each swim meet at home and away. Clean up pool area. This is a job that requires a team of people. It is not hard or time-consuming AS LONG AS THERE ARE PLENTY OF VOLUNTEERS!

Photographer

Photograph all activities of the team for a power point slide show.

The Northwest Aquatic League (NWAL) defines the categories as follows: 6 years and under 11-12 years 7-8 years 13-14 years 9-10 years 15-18 years Swim Team Board The elected officers of the Rattlesnake of Montgomery County shall be President, Vice President, 2nd Vice President/NWAL Representative for RSMC, Treasurer, Secretary, Clerk of Course, Volunteer Coordinator, Merchandise Coordinator, Social Chair and other such officers as may be determined necessary by the Board Of Directors. All officers shall be Board members in good standing with an active swimmer on the team. Each member of the Board of Directors shall be a voting member of RSMC. The officers shall hold office for a term of two years until their successors are duly appointed. No person shall serve more than two consecutive terms in the same office unless the position is unchallenged by another candidate.

Volunteers Help Make The Team It takes EVERYONE to hold a successful swim meet! Swim team member’s parents/family are heavily involved in making successful swim meets. Without the parent help, we would not be able to have a swim team. Each family is required to complete 6 volunteer shifts throughout the season. A $200 volunteer deposit check is collected at registration or first day of practice and held in good faith that your family volunteer hours will be completed. Upon completion, your check will be returned to you. Swimmers may NOT practice until Volunteer Deposit is collected!

REMINDER: ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES AND TOBACCO ARE PROHIBITED IN THE POOL AREA BY NWAL RULES. NO GLASS CONTAINERS ARE ALLOWED IN THE POOL AREA. SWIMMERS MAY NOT DISPLAY INSIGNIA OR OTHER ITEMS THAT ARE FROM ANY OTHER SWIMMING ORGANIZATION OR TEAM OTHER THAN THE NWAL TEAM FOR WHICH THEY SWIM. When is swim season? Swim team practice begins on Monday, April 14, 2014. This is a few weeks before the first swim meet and will be held in the afternoon from 4:30-6:30. Beginning June 9th, practice is held during weekday mornings from 8:30-10:30. Practice sessions are segregated according to the age group. Regular swim season begins May 17th and ends June 21st. Meets are held each Saturday morning. There are usually 5 meets (home and away) that are followed by a Divisional Meet (June 21st), where all the teams in our Division compete for the title of Divisional Champion. The Divisional Meet is the most important meet for the Team. Please plan your vacation around this date-WE NEED EVERYONE AT THE DIVISIONAL MEET!
