Double-ended Pot Holder

Freelance Educator, Kelley McKenzie, saw this idea on Pinterest and was inspired to make it Janome-style! This is a great project that will take you through some of the best features of your new Horizon Memory Craft 9400QCP. Skill level: Confident beginner Time: 1 hour Janome Supplies Required: • Zig-Zag foot A • Satin Stitch foot F2 • Acufeed foot AD • Blue Tip needles • Empty bobbin

Instructions 1. Layer the three 9” X 26” pieces of terry cloth/batting/terry cloth and pin together to secure. 2. Select Sewing Applications fig2> Select Quilting > Straight Stitch > Straight Stitch Fig 2 and attach AcuFeed foot AD. 3. Make sure that you engage the AcuFeed key fig3 on the screen of your machine Fig 3 for optimum feeding of fabric. 4. Quilt the layers together, using a design of your choice.

Fabric/Notions Required: • Two 9” X 26” pieces of terry cloth • One 9” X 26” piece of heat resistant batting • Two 9” x 9” pieces of terry cloth • Two 9” x 9” pieces of decorative fabric • Two 9” x 9” pieces of heat resistant batting • 110” of 2 1/2” wide binding fabric • 7” x 3” piece of solid coordinating fabric for appliqué • Heat and Bond Lite for appliqué • 9” X 9” block of stabilizer • Coordinating thread

5. Using the manufacturer’s directions, adhere Heat and Bond Lite to back of coordinating fabric. 6. Trace out the spoon template on the back of the transfer material. Adhere the spoon to one of the 9” blocks. 7. Layer the block of fabric on top of the 9” square of stabilizer. 8. Attach Satin Stitch foot F2. 9. Select Sewing Applications. Select Appliqué mode. Select the first appliqué stitch available on the screen. Fig4 10. Adjust the stitch length to 2.4 and width to 2.5.

11. Touch Cornering key. Fig5 12. Touch Auto Pivot. Fig6 13. Begin sewing at the base of the spoon. When stopping at a pivoting point, the foot will automatically lift. Turn the fabric then press the Start Over key fig7 to make a perfect appliquéd corner. Sew around the entire spoon to complete the appliqué stitching. 14. Select the Lettering key from the screen menu. Select the 7mm Block font. Type in the letters to spell “From the kitchen of _ _ _ _ _”. 15. Sew this anywhere in the block. 16. Layer the 9” squares of decorative fabric/heat resistant batting/terry cloth. 17. Attach AcuFeed foot AD again. Select Quilting Mode and then choose stitch #16 or #29. 18. Sew some lines of decorative stitches across the blocks.

20. Attach binding to one edge of each 9” quilt block sandwich. The other three sides will be bound at the same time as the body of the pot holder.

21. Pin both blocks on either side of the 26” terry cloth quilt sandwich, with each of the finished sides of the 9” blocks on the inside of the potholder. 22. Attach the remaining binding to the outside edges of the 9” X 26” quilt sandwich, enclosing the unfinished edges of the 9” blocks as well.

9” 19. Using the Dual feed AD foot. Select Sewing Applications. Select a straight quilting stitch from the Quilt section. Quilt some straight lines across the 9” block quilt sandwiches.
