NATURAL SPIRITUALITY CLASS September 7 & 21 (1st & 3rd Sundays) 9:00—10:00 Guild Room The Natural Spirituality class was initially formed last Fall by Father Steve Moore. The class combined techniques of centering prayer, meditation and an introduction to dreamwork analysis. The group is now continuing on, using the book, “Natural Spirituality” written by Joyce Hudson. The term "Natural Spirituality" was coined by her to refer to inner work in a Christian context. She started the first initial group in North Carolina in 1991. That first Natural Spirituality class was a great success. It spawned a parish program that’s still going strong. Similar groups have become common in the Carolinas, Georgia and the Episcopal Diocese of Arkansas. The book that she authored, "Natural Spirituality" moves Jungian dream work from the professional world of the analyst's office into the everyday world of the laity in the local church. The book offers serious Christians in every community an opportunity to embark on the spiritual path of individuation. With clarity and simplicity Joyce Hudson puts into her reader's hands the tools for inner work that Carl Jung offered to Christianity. SPIRITUAL GROWTH STUDY GROUP Saturday Mornings, 8:00 a.m.
“The Cloister Walk” By Kathleen Norris Join us Saturday morning, August 2nd at 8:00 a.m. in the Guild Room as we begin our new book The Cloister Walk by Kathleen Norris. Part record of her time among the Benedictines, part meditation on various aspects of monastic life, The Cloister Walk demonstrates, from the rare perspective of someone who is both an insider and outsider, how immersion in the cloistered world—its liturgy, its ritual, its sense of community—can impart meaning to everyday events and deepen our secular lives. In this stirring and lyrical work, the monastery often considered archaic or otherworldly, becomes immediate, accessible, and relevant to us. Cost of the book is $13.50. New York Times bestseller for 23 weeks New York Times Notable Book of the Year "A strange and beautiful book...Part memoir, part meditation, it is a remarkable piece of writing." -The Boston Globe "The Cloister Walk is a new opportunity to discover a remarkable writer with a huge, wise heart...Norris resonates deeply for a lot of people: She's one of those writers who demands to be handed around. You want to share this great discovery, giving her work as a gift or you simply shove a copy in the face of a friend, saying 'Read this.'" -Minneapolis Star-Tribune
