EFAM 2013 DIVISION REPORT Opening General Session: The Opening General Session was impressive as always with the parade of flags from the various nations around the world with IAAP representatives. The National Colors were carried by the Los Angeles City Police Color Guard and our national anthem was beautifully sung by Bianca Constance, CAP, of the New Jersey Division. The highlight of the General Session was the unveiling, to mixed reviews, of the new IAAP logo by IAAP Executive Director Jay Donohue, CAE. Business Session: The business of the association was begun by the introduction of various international committee chairs, and the adoption of the Credentials Committee Report, and the Business Session Rules and Agenda by the Delegates. The Bylaws and Standing Rules Committee presented 6 proposed Amendments to the Foundation Bylaws and 17 proposed Amendments to the IAAP Bylaws. All 6 amendments to The Foundation Bylaws passed, approving the desired restructuring of the Foundation to reflect the normal practices of other 501c (3) organizations. The new structure eliminates the positions of Trustees and replaces them with Regents which more equitably represents the various regions of the country and not the Districts of IAAP. The Board positions of Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary and Treasurer will be elected positions and the Regents will be appointed rather than elected. Prior to voting, Amendments 1, 2, and 14 were withdrawn by the sponsors of those amendments, leaving only 14 amendments to be voted upon. All 14 were passed and will be posted on the IAAP website. The more significant ones of interest were Amendment 5, (dues increase to be based upon the Department of Labor’s Consumer Price Index), Amendment 6 (changing the IAAP HQ fiscal year to October 1 through September 30), and Amendment 17 (dues increase of $50 changing the professional dues from $88 to $138). After the Bylaws and Standing Rules Committee report, the Nominations Committee then introduced the candidates for election to the IAAP Board of Directors. With the passage of the Foundation Bylaws amendments and the elimination of the Trustee positions, no election would be held on those positions. Elections: The polls opened at 3pm Pacific Time on Sunday and Election Results were announced at the Monday General Session. During the Monday Session, as a change from previous years’ programs, the new officers were installed. Members achieving Member of Excellence were asked to stand and be recognized, and those who achieved the 5th year of Excellence were also recognized. Harford Chapter was recognized for their 10th Anniversary Year. Recognition and Award Lunch: The Awards Lunch was held on Monday at which the Avery Award Winners and the Avery Box Tops Winners were announced and introduced. The Division of Excellence banner numbers and congratulatory letters were given to the Division Presidents by the International President. The Foundation Scholarship winners were recognized, as well as the chairs of the various International Committees. Additionally, the 2 Divisions who won the Membership Retention Contest within their Districts were also recognized with the DE-MD-DC Division and Pennsylvania Division within the Northeast District winning recognition. This honor comes with a $250 cash award! Summary It was generally agreed that the change in the scheduling of some events was good for the overall flow of EFAM. There still needs to be tweaks to the schedule which, hopefully, will be shared by the members with the Headquarters staff through the EFAM surveys. The Division members in attendance seemed to have enjoyed themselves and the experience of attending EFAM in sunny California. I wish to congratulate again our two Foundation Scholarship winners, Ginny Hussey, CAP-OM, from Tri-County Chapter, and Mattie McDowell from Prince George’s Chapter, and hope that they had both an enjoyable and educational time at their first EFAM. On the fun side, the Division participated in the Evening of Welcome’s Dance Competition. Imagine our considerable surprise when several other Divisions had the same idea of wearing the polka dot bikini tee shirts during their routines. I’m sure that Amazon.com enjoyed considerable business from the members of IAAP. We, unfortunately, did not win this year’s competition. The competition was tough this time around, and the New Jersey Division was gunning for us since we beat them out last year. They took the honors for the Northeast District, but we all had a blast. The Division’s Bowling and Dinner event was a huge hit! Our 3 teams of 24 members and their guests had a wonderful time, and many members who did not bowl came to cheer us on and enjoyed a great time of camaraderie and fun. We had a number of friends from other divisions join us, including District Direction Sharon McPherson. This was so much fun that we may look for other ways of having an active get-together at future EFAMs. And finally, I wish to again express my sincere appreciation to all the members of the DE-MDDC Division who did their part in making this such a successful year for our Division. We were certainly proud and happy to be recognized at EFAM, and I was equally proud to go as your delegate to represent this great Division. Respectfully Submitted, Patricia L May, CAP-OM Immediate Past President Delegate, DE-MD-DC Division Page 3 of 3
