lite Electronic Systems (EES)’s expansion to the US seven years ago has proven to be a shrewd move as its international status continues to keep the contracting company towards the top of the electronic manufacturing industry. The decision to grow the business to South Carolina 20 years after its inception in Northern Ireland was taken to not only expand its own footprint, but to give its loyal customers the option to do the same, and Managing

Director (MD), David Allen has been delighted to see these plans reach fruition. “We have customers who are achieving considerable growth, allowing us to grow with them,” he said. “Our focus on being a manufacturing partner and adding value to what our customers produce has ensured that even in the toughest times quality work was still the norm. “We look forward to maintaining our position as one of Ireland’s top electronics manufacturers and to building our customer profile in the UK and beyond.” Pathway to the US Offering specialised services, including printed circuit board (PCB) and cable assembly, as well as complete system integration and customer test services, has alleviated EES to industry notoriety and this is now being replicated in the US. “In 2006, Elite opened a 50,000 square feet facility in South Carolina to develop capacity for US clients and to create a pathway for its UK and Irish customers who wanted to expand into the US,” Allen explained. an extension of their core business activities”, according Allen, who is also a Co-founder of the company. “Elite is capable of handling purchasing, manufacturing, testing, and distribution,” he added. “Each customer has varying requirements so it is our aim to work closely with the customer to find out the most efficient process and tailor our service.” Customers in markets including power generation, medical devices and telecommunications are loyal, long-standing clients of EES in Ireland, and epitomise the overall philosphy that the company has on

supplier relationships. “Elite is proud to be described by many of their customers as ‘manufacturing partner’ or ‘manufacturing arm’,” Allen said. “Our policy of treating customers as partners in the process is key in developing long-term relationships. “This means working with customers through the difficult prototyping and early testing phases, utilising our expertise in design for manufacture and design for test and delivering the best possible electronics for our customer. This can only be done in partnership.” Proactive investments As well as international expansion, the company also employs a strong ethos of internal growth and capital investments to ensure increased capacities, volumes and flexibility within the business. This has recently included a £500,000 investment into new equipment and optimised training for its highly skilled workforce. An Elite induction course is backed up by on-the-job training and specific IPC 610/62 training to bring each employee up to the highest manufacturing standards. EES invests in equipment provide further incentives for the committed workforce which keeps EES fully prepared for matters outside the company’s control, such as the recent economic struggles in Europe. “Like everyone else, Elite has encountered the difficulties presented by the recent times,” Allen explained. “Elite have been proactive to ensure a smooth passage through choppy waters.” This involved strategic acquisitions of new equipment and technology, as well as the creation of a sales and marketing team and a campaign of brand awareness – all done with a view to achieving 10 percent per annum growth and continuing its overall development, both in existing and potential markets, at home and overseas.
