Social Services Social Service Coordinator Non-Exempt $14.50 per hour
Job Focus:
This person is to admit and work closely with the families and single women in the Hanger Lodge; individually and in group work. To plan and implement (in conjunction with the Social Service Coordinator) programs in the Hanger Lodge which would benefit the residents. To work closely with the Director of Residential Services and other lodge staff to promote positive conditions which are favorable to the residents’ well-being and progress Essential Functions:
Implement a Christian philosophy in all work within the Social Service Department and throughout The Salvation Army as a viable, long term solution for the Social, Spiritual and Physical needs of our clients Refer questions regarding admission to the Director of Residential Services Provide direct service to the clients Establish and monitor a case plan for each family or single woman in residence To be aware of the housing situation in Lexington; subsidized housing opportunities/ public housing and to present this information to families and women in an appropriate format To refer families and singles to appropriate social service agencies which may be of assistance to them; encourage residents to make use of them To ensure all monies from clients are signed in and deposited in the Social Services Coordinator’s Office To present Life Skills classes on an as needed basis To work with transitional families and singles as needed To provide limited follow-up services to residents who express a desire for such assistance. This would consist of at least one contact per month either by phone or home visit Attend and participate in appropriate community meetings/ committees, as assigned by the Social Service Coordinator/Associate Area Coordinator Responsible for statistics and other needed reports on casework matters Participate in staff meetings and development Be responsible for the organization of paperwork, prompt recording and meeting of deadlines imposed by your supervisor Be willing to assist colleagues when emergency situations arise. Including but not limited to managing more clients if a colleague needs assistance Help with the application & distribution process for the Christmas Assistance Program and any other duties that are assigned during the Christmas season Provide direct emergency relief services as needed Must be able to report to work within 15-20 minutes should the need arise if requested to be On Call by the Associate Area Coordinator Maintain strict confidentiality as it relates to the work of the accounting department Perform all duties in a manner that reflects the core value of The Salvation Army in treating all people with dignity and respect Provide other services as required for the efficient functioning of The Salvation Army
Job Requirements/Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or related field required One or more years’ of social work experience with homeless population preferred Ability to work in a fast-paced environment Sterling interpersonal skills; applies tact and diplomacy in dealing with internal and external constituents Exceptional written and verbal communication skills Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications (Microsoft Word, Excel,) Ability to maintain strict confidentiality Must possess a thorough understanding and appreciation for The Salvation Army’s mission and work Creative, enthusiastic, highly organized and able to meet deadlines in a timely manner Flexibility & Strong Work Ethic Must be sensitive to the issues of families, children, cultural diversity, and homelessness – must be able to assist people and provide assistance in a calm, courteous and polite manner A positive, contagious ‘can-do’ attitude Must pass extensive background check Must maintain a valid driver’s license Have a clean and neat appearance A passion for The Salvation Army’s mission
