November 2017 Dear Parent/Carer RE: SCHOOL TRIP TO FRANCE (CHAMPAGNE-PARIS) – JULY 2018 I am writing to inform you that the Modern Foreign Languages Department is proposing to arrange a five day French visit to France for Year 8, 9 and 10 students who are studying French. Similar visits have been undertaken in the past by the Modern Foreign Languages Department and every year has proved to be a very enjoyable and informative experience for the students taking part. The provisional dates are from Monday 9 July 2018 to Friday 13 July 2018 The boys will be staying with French families in the Reims area, either singly or in pairs, as paying guests. This will give them an ideal opportunity to participate in the day to day life of a French family and thereby gain first-hand experience of the language and civilisation, and to broaden their cultural horizons. Boys may choose whether they wish to team up with a partner of their choice or to stay as a single guest. All host families have been thoroughly vetted and are experienced in receiving foreign children as their guests. The boys will be meeting up as a school group every day in order to go on different excursions in Reims and within the Champagne region. We have also provisionally arranged a day in Paris, and visit to Disneyland Paris, visits to the historical towns of Laon in the Picardie region and Epernay in the Champagne vineyards. Boys will spend the evenings with their host families. The total cost of the trip will be approximately £380 (subject to exchange rate fluctuations) and will include return journey from Dover to Calais, a coach for the duration of our stay, full board accommodation, full insurance cover, and daily excursions (Champagne Region, a day out in Paris and one day in Disneyland-Paris). Due to the popularity of our trips to France over the years, we will operate a first come first served system. Therefore, in order for your son to be considered for the trip, a £80 deposit (non-returnable if your son is selected) should be made by ParentPay. Also, the reply slip attached must be returned by Friday 1st December 2017 at the latest to the Upper School Office only for the attention of Mrs Povey. If your son is selected onto the trip, further information will follow. Please note that the School reserves the right to refuse a pupil a place on this trip based on poor behaviour at school or a concern relating to responsibility. Yours sincerely
