Establish school-wide academic discourse norms and practices Implement interaction instructional routines using classroom-tested tools Integrate and meaningfully address advanced social and academic language Engage learners at every proficiency level in academic discussions Set up and monitor productive student collaboration including language targets Design response frames that model and scaffold competent communication Encourage thoughtful elaboration and justification during lesson discussions Guide students in constructing brief written responses using academic register Address critical language functions for secondary school, college and career readiness Integrate accountable listening tasks with relevant language targets Provide productive and timely feedback on oral language errors during lessons

Analyze complex text to establish conceptual, topical and high-utility vocabulary priorities Frontload central lesson concepts using a viable process and customized organizers Explicitly teach high-utility academic word families using a consistent interactive routine Integrate examples and practice using common collocations (academic word partners) Structure brief, constructed verbal and written responses applying new lesson terms Set up an organized vocabulary notebook with relevant sections and note-taking guides Guide competent text analysis to determine word meaning and author intent Design and implement brief formative assessments to provide meaningful review Monitor student comprehension, language use, and accountable interaction
