2013 Activities Summary In 2013 the Princeton Environmental Commission (PEC) adopted the following subcommittees or focus areas: Development Application Review, Building Overlay Zones and Waste. PEC activities in 2013 included: • • • • •

Support of Princeton’s Food Waste Recycling Program Support of the Municipal Green Team and Sustainable Jersey municipal certification Advised Friends of Princeton Open Space in their quest to adopt the Herrontown Woods and also discussed other options to preserve this space Exploration of options to address the lack of a clearly defined department to handle parks and open space; efforts to hire a Parks Director Extensive discussion of the Transco Williams Proposed Pipeline Project with groups such as the Sierra Club, Food & Water Watch, the Stony Brook Millstone Watershed Association, and residents. PEC adopted a resolution submitted by the Sierra Club; Council ultimately passed it as presented by PEC, with minor changes. Support of the Sustainable Princeton Leadership Awards Introduction of PEC’s Green Building Checklist to the Council Support of the 2013 Princeton Environmental Film Festival Support of the Highlands Water Protection and Planning Act. Review and comment on the development applications including but not limited to: o Avalon Bay, o Mistral Restaurant, o PNC Drive-Thru, o Princeton University Building & Grounds, o Westerly Road Church Subdivision, o 255 Nassau Street, o 527 Stockton LLC
