2015 - 2016 Newsletter – Issue 5 Friday, 9 October 2015 Dear Parents and Carers, Dearelighted Children and staff have really enjoyed purple book time this week and are looking forward to sharing their progress with you at our parents’ evenings. Next week is also themed ‘Faith in Action’ when we are encouraging everyone to do something extra for example, bring in a tin for the harvest collection or perform a random act of kindness.

Year 4 Holy Communions If you have not already done so, please complete your child’s Communion registration form at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs sacristy. The children will make their First Holy Communion in May or June 2016. The closing date for registration is Sunday, 18 October 2015. Harvest - Reminder Please continue to send in your tinned goods for our harvest collection. The last date for items to be sent in will be Wednesday, 21 October 2015. The collection will be donated to homeless charities.

Dominic and Reece proudly brought in their rosary beads this week. It was indeed St. Dominic who first introduced rosary beads to others and our Dominic has a special set from his nan. Reece is wearing a mission set which mark prayers for every continent in the world.

Christmas Fayre Planning Meeting There will be a short meeting on Friday, 16 October 2015 at 9.00 a.m. to continue with the planning of this year’s Chistmas Fayre. All are welcome to attend.

Ipad Raffle Tickets for the ipad raffle are on sale to the children every lunch time in school for £1 a strip. Sheila and Rose will also be selling tickets on yard after school each day. The draw will take place on Thursday, 5 November 2015. SCHOOL DINNERS : REMINDER

Please inform the school office if your child changes their school meal. If you think you may be entitled to Free School Meals, please call to your local One Stop Shop to apply or collect a form from the school office.

Contact Details If you have recently changed any of your contact details, please let the school office know as soon as possible to keep our records updated. If your child has started to take any long term medication which they will need in school, please come in and complete a form. Thank you.

Stranger Danger Assembly On Monday, the children from Reception and Years 1 & 2 were given a special assembly by Community Police Officers Adam and Jackie. They were visiting school to teach the children about what to do if they are approached by a stranger, who to trust and safe places to go. The children used their big voices to shout ‘Stranger Danger!’

Year 4 Shakespeare Schools Festival As you will be aware, the children in Year 4 are taking part in a performance of ‘Macbeth’ on Wednesday, 18 November 2015. This week they visited the Epstein Theatre for a rehearsal on the stage. The children behaved really well and enjoyed the atmosphere of the theatre.

Year 6 Retreat Day The children from Year 6 enjoyed a retreat day at St John Bosco on Thursday. During the RE themed day the children took part in lots of activities including making prayer boxes and an altar cloth for their leavers mass.

School discos will take place on Friday, 23 October 2015 If you would like your child to attend, please return the slip and money in an envelope with your child’s name on before Wednesday, 14 October 2015.
