Every Student, Every Learning Outcome, Students First! Every licensed classroom teacher in USD #413 works collaboratively with a team of other educators to talk about teaching and learning in our district. These teams are called Professional Learning Communities (PLC). One foundational structure of a PLC is that teachers look at performance data for individual students and not just at whole classroom data. This practice assures that your child’s teacher knows what he or she knows and is able to do. The work in PLCs has been a very involved process for 10 years but the addition of Evidence Based Learning (EBL) will strengthen the entire process in service to our students. How? PLCs have identified the essential outcomes in every course we teach. Using rubrics (see EBL article #4) teachers and students can articulate exactly what is learned and whether mastery of the learning outcome is attained. If or when students fall short of mastery on an essential outcome, re-thinking and re-assessing or, individualized/small group instruction is warranted. This is to assure that we do all that is possible to help the student be successful in mastering every essential learning outcome or target; thus, Every Student, Every Learning Outcome, Students First!
